The cocktails were great. The food, however disappointed. We perhaps had higher expectations given the ginger brand reputation. Squid ink pasta special was overdone to the point that we thought it was stewed spinach. Triple frying the chips has a charming ring to it but was also a mistake, since it makes them tough and inedible. The rest of the food was pretty average. One can see what are going for but the execution was poor and you still get a large bill at the end. Service was pleasant but ambivalent ‘the specials are written over there’. I hear good things about the ginger fox, but would not visit the ginger dog again for the money. Felt a bit robbed.

What a lovely pub! It’s clean, classy and got that vavavoom to it. I went in for a quick coffee before I pick up my son after school. Nice coffee. The staff were friendly. I spotted that nice working fireplace that at the time needed attention, but by the looks of it, the staff are always on top of it. The ambience was peaceful, retro music was playing. I was glad I went in on a quiet time. There seemed to be plenty of seating indoors and upstairs. They can hold functions as there was one at the time. It wasn’t a bother to me as they were across the room. I go to and fro this road and I know it can be busy in the evenings. Must try it at some point.

Often busy so book well in advance. Classy place with delicious food. Quite expensive but suits the high quality and distinctive menu. I had the partridge, which was excellent, as were my companions’ meals. Somewhat small portions so 3 courses are advised if you have a good appetite. Excellent drinks menu with interesting beers, wines, spirits and cocktails. Lovely atmosphere, quite a small place, with appropriately attentive and knowledgeable staff.

The Ginger Dog is the latest in the ever expanding line of ‘Ginger’ restaurants in the Brighton area. The menu specialises in traditional pub food with a gastronomic twist and it certainly didn’t disapoint on my first visit. I went with high expectations due to the fact that the Ginger Pig is one of my favourite local restaurants and they didn’t let me down. The place has a cosy pub feel with open fires and a well stocked bar with local ales, good wines and a large selection of whiskeys. It is also currently serving mulled wine which is a particular treat when the snow is on the ground. The décor is funky as well as cozy and the staff were very friendly and knowledgable, willing to offer advise when needed. At lunch time they serve a full munu plus a special lunch menu offering two courses for £10 — a great bargin for the quality of the food. On this occasion I went for the full menu — Morrocan spiced lamb pie with cumin carrots and raita for main course, and a Baileys bread and butter pudding with chocolate and cranberry ice cream for pud — both were delicious. My friend had pork belly followed by chocolate brownie knicker bocker glory. They change the menu on a regular basis and I will definitely be going back soon to work my way through the many tasty offerings. Highly recommended!

This cute little pub/resturant is set back a little from the main street through Kemp town so can be easily missed. However its well worth searching for. From the outside it looks like a small local bar but once you enter it feels like a modern gastro pub. There is a resturant at the back serving gastro pub classics and regular specials. There is a bar menu too with smaller tapas style plates. The prices are resonable and the staff very helpful and friendly. Dogs and children are welcome and there is such a nice welcoming feeling here. Its a lovely place to spend a cosy afternoon with friends or famaily there should be a place like this on every corner.

The Wellington can suffer from a lack of custom as its slightly off the beaten tack, but still gets a local trade from regulars with dogs etc. But it can be very quiet and I have seen it completely shut by 10pm on a Friday night. If your after a quiet place to read the paper its perfect but I would not advise for large loud groups or for the start of a night on the tiles. They do bar food and Sunday Roasts and the pub is close to Sussex hospital, Amex and the seafront.
