It says a lot about our culture that simply maintaining one’s health now comes at such great expense. On the plus side David Lloyd offers everything you could want from a gym. There’s an indoor pool, sauna, spa, steam room, gymnasium, crèche, hair and beauty salon, sun beds, sports shop, bar, restaurant, personal trainers and free Wi-Fi. However, this all comes at considerable cost. Unless you’re a professional athlete or involved in any form of intensive training I can’t see how you can justify spending more than £50 per month on gym membership. I spend just £23 per month at Coral Fitness and I’m perfectly satisfied. These days it seems that beauty is no deeper than your pockets.

In the midst of a post-summer health kick, I enquired online into the prices of various Brighton gyms. David Lloyd wont quote online, instead they take your contact details and get back to you. About a week later some horribly over keen commission seeking representative rang me to persuade me to take up membership. I patiently listened to the prices(no deals for me, like you get if you have a friend there/work for a big company) — almost £100 a month, good grief! I’ll give it a miss methinks.
