Another of Brighton’s independent music and DVD stores, also selling books. Although more centrally located, it’s not as good as Rounder Records for stock and coolness. They have a good range of DVDs and stock all the classics and indies, and the CD collection covers most genres, venturing slightly out of the mainstream. Although I did come across an Alice Deejay album the other day, which I found most disturbing. There’s a small book selection at the back of the shop, with music books and autobiographies, as well as books on art, graphic design, film and television. The vinyl selection is much smaller than Rounder Records, but there didn’t seem to be anything over £12 so it’s definitely worth a look for a bargain.

Ape is a small music/DVD/book shop situated on North Street. It’s great if you have a diverse taste in music artists as the shelves are filled with cd’s from every genre going. If you are looking to discover new or different music to add to your collection then look no further as you are bound to find something that takes your fancy in here. There’s a good range of vinyl records too. It also has a great film section ranging from cult classics, avant-garde and indie flicks. The book section is relatively small but consists of some good art, design, film, music, humoristic and autobiography books. There’s usually special offers on where you can get items for £5 too so it’s not an overly priced shop by any means. So if you’re not into the typical mainstream chart music and like to listen to interesting albums then definitely visit this place.
