Thornbridge were the highlight of a marvellous selection of breweries and their beers. When there are always too many different things you want to drink at a pub, it has to be a good choice. Similar look and feel to the London version, but a little cosier here.

Cask is the new intonation of the once famous Hop Poles, which was then followed by the short lived Spotted Dog, and has now had new life breathed in to it by the Cask craft beer company, who already have a successful venue in Pimlico. Cask specialise in craft ales sourced from Britain, Europe and America. There are numerous beers here that may make choosing just one a complicated task. However, the bar staff here are so friendly and knowledgeable this in itself becomes an enjoyable experience. I was asked what sort of ales I normally go for, and was then given a variety of samples to try. Nothing was too much trouble, even on a busy Friday evening. I can’t remember the ale I plumped for, but I’m pretty sure it was in some way related to clowns. Yes, at just under £8 for two halves, this isn’t a cheap boozer, but just like with fine wines you get what you pay for. The beer was delicious and strong, as the single half I consumed left me slightly tipsy! The small beer garden out the back is always busy but you can usually find a spot to perch. Cask offers something different from the usual boozer, a must if you are a fan of real ales and craft beers.
