I both love and hate the Railway depending on the different days of the week. Mon-Friday daytimes you can expect a large proportion of the town drunks to be slumped in various nooks and crannies. On the weekends you can expect it to be filled with amorous, scantily clad over-40s dancing to Summer of ’69. So I hate this place on weekends. It’s right next to the Railway station which is, surprisingly, where it gets its name. I have missed many a train thinking I can squeeze in a last minute pint here. It’s quite small inside, with low ceilings and traditional décor. There’s a decent jukebox and the drinks are cheap and cheerful. Staff are always friendly enough too. It’s a decent place for a quick pint and a chat with mates before going on to bigger and better things. There’s nothing much to keep most people later into the evening though so if you’re looking for anything other than cheesy music –avoid!
