A broken down ruin this has nonetheless got some very interesting history attached to it Reputed to have been the place where King Arthur gathered his forces prior to marching up to Mount Badon(Mynydd Baedon) a couple of miles away, it even has a memorial stone granting land to a nearby church by Arthur himself Worth an excursion if you like hidden Welsh history

A lovely wide sandy beach and nice place to visit for a walk, paddle, or even a swim or surfing if you don’t mind braving the cold! Lots of rock pools for children to explore. There are good views across the Bristol Channel towards Somerset too. There’s a car park nearby which charges in season(pay and display). To find it, take the B4265 from Bridgend then the B4524 and follow the signs to Ogmore.

Ogmore Castle is a beautiful ruin which belongs to CADW who care for Welsh Historic Monuments. The castle is situated at the south bank of the Ewenny estuary, very close to Ogmore By Sea and the excellent beach. The castle is free to enter and you can spend as much time as you want in the grounds. The ruins are substantial and acts as a local landmark and sight Ogmore Castle was built by the Normans as part of their Welsh invasion. Coity Castle and Newcastle, Bridgend were also built by the Normans at the same time You can cross a fun set of stepping stones across the river near the castle to reach the village of Merthyr Mawr. Unfortunately there is sometimes a bad smell in the area because of the close proximity of a water treatment plan. There is a tearoom and a great pub in close proximity to the castle. With care you can swim in the river in the summer, and without care you might end up taking an unwelcome dip if you slip on the stepping stones!
