We were out one Sunday in search of ideas for a bedroom makeover and ended up in Brentwood, being lunch time we decided to grab something to eat. We found that the town had been closed off to traffic, due to a cycle race, so we parked up in a nearby back street and walked into town. Brentwood for those that don’t know is a small town compared with some of the surrounding towns and basically just consists of the high street, with most of your big name high street stores being available. as we walked into town, we could see the the pavements were rammed, so we had a quick reconnoitre of what eatery’s were available and settled on La Tasca, as it was virtually empty,(one thing i don’t like doing is queueing for food) we chose the chicken paella and as there is normally a 45 Min wait, we sat back and took watched the race through the window. some 45 minutes plus our food was presented to us and found that they served up a seafood paella which was abound with every conceivable seaborne creatures you could imaging, sorry i don’t do mussel’s, squid etc, but not wanting to wait another three quarters of an hour we picked our way through it and found that it had been over cooked leaving a thick layer of paella adhered to the base of the pan. I have never experienced this in any other La Tasca that I’ve been in and can only hope that they will improve.

La Tasca is a chain of Spanish tapas restaurants. Being a chain, I feel they lack a bit of the authenticity you would find in an independent Spanish restaurant but nevertheless they have obviously made an effort with the décor and ambience. Tapas, for the uninitiated, are small dishes of various Spanish delights. The idea is you order maybe 3 or 4 dishes per person, put everything in the middle and tuck in with friends. Clever concept and great opportunity to try lots of nice new things. It’s not the cheapest place to eat by any means but they do run promotions from time to time. Tapas for a Tenner was one I think.

La Tasca is a chain spanish tapas restaurant. They are all decked out in traditional spanish style. If you have been before you know what to expect, and quality is high. The only problem is that it can feel slightly souless as it is a chain restaurant. La Tasca offers the standard spanish fayre, including tapas dishes and paella. It is possible to get an offer of meat/fish based tapas dishes, which are very good value. You can get a series of plates so you get to try a bit of everything. This will certainly fill up a table of 2. Although slightly overpriced, it is tempting to get a jug of sangria, for a real taste of spain!

Great for Spanish tapas and wine. Good vibe and even better when they do their Tapas for a tenner special. Worth a visit!
