A wonderful traditional bookstore that every book lover will appreciate. They have a good variety of adult books and their children’s selection is the best in town. The staff is knowledgeable and genuinely seems to care. If you are looking for a special book they don’t have in the store they will try to find it for you. One of my favourite shops in Braintree !

This is a lovely old-​style bookshop which has been in Braintree for years. What they don’t have they can order and the staff are really helpful. The childrens’ section is good and has provided a nice alternative to toy buying when out shopping! The childrens’ section is good for buying gifts as it caters for children of all ages. They have a diverse selection of adult books too so something for everyone. Worth a visit.

This is the shop to go to if you have a particular book you want and cannot find it anywhere else — if they haven’t got it they will order it in for you — good quality books — always good for browsing around — lovely old fashioned type shop with very helpful people who work there that know what they’re talking about

Hannays is a gorgeous, longstanding pillar of the Braintree community. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to offering book-​based advice. They have a fast and efficient book ordering system. In a town that is full of chain stores, Hannays stands out as a good quality, traditional, independent retailer. I’ve never been let down once by Hannays and often enjoy a browse when I pop back to Braintree for a visit.
