Zio’s is above Fryer Tucks Fish restaurant in a parade of shops. If Mario(the proprietor) is in he is quite a character. He greets female guests with a kiss and escorts them to their table. He is full of fun if you want him to be but is otherwise discreet. On some evenings there is a little Italian guy who plays a keyboard and sings various ballads and typical Italian songs ie Amore. From what I understand Mario used to own this place when it was known as Zio Tonino’s. He sold it and then when he heard it was going downhill he bought it back again. The food is all freshly cooked and plentiful. All the usual pizzas and pastas plus other foods such as fancy burgers and steaks. The prices are not too bad, slightly on the higher side but they often have offers on which are amazing. Last time I went there was a three course meal for £12.50 and the first bottle of house wine per person was £5. You can’t complain at that! I have got to say that the last time I went there, there wasn’t very many customers so it was a little lacking in atmosphere. If you are there for an occasion ie birthday etc if you tell them they play an appropriate song and bring you a flaming sambucco, which you have to drink through a straw when the flames have been doused. They are also happy to light candles on birthday cakes and bring that out for you too. Well worth a visit. Unfortunately the restaurant has now closed and the place is up for sale!!!
