Friendly welcoming staff, spotless toilets as mentioned by another visitor. Well kept beer but then it’s downhill I’m afraid. Used to be really good up to about 12 months ago but the boring menu never changes save for a few daily or weekly specials. Food expensive for what it is and the place looked downright miserable over Christmas. No surprise then that the previously bustling restaurant is now frequently empty. I’ve eaten and drunk there countless times over the years but regrettably time for somewhere with more imagination and better quality food.

I took my mum here for Sunday lunch yesterday at her request — apparently it’s changed hands and the people who used to run the Railway at Kirkstead Bridge have taken over, with good reviews. Anyway, it was a carvery, and the pork was lovely and moist(the beef was a little overdone). There was plenty of Batemans on tap(yum) and the treacle sponges were light and fluffy with just the right amount of sticky on top. I would’ve liked some mashed potatoes and something green with my roast though, although that’s just personal preference. Carrots and cauliflower are lovely and everything, but from an aesthetic point of view I like a balanced colour scheme :) Drinks, desserts and carveries for three came to under £50 — good quality, reasonably priced grub served by a team of keen and polite young waiters/waitresses. Thumbs up all round.

Family pub, pleasantly situated. Best food in Lincolnshire thanks to Richard & Sandy, the landlord & landlady! Haven’t been in months due to work commitments, but will most definitely travel all the way back there just for the ostrich burger!
