One of my favourite places in Bolton to have something to eat, or just a drink, or even do a little shopping. As well as being a deli, with a superb array of produce, cheeses, jams, chutneys, drinks, cakes etc, it’s also a great coffee shop with a great variety of teas, and high quality coffees, cold drinks, and an incredibly tempting range of cakes(I particularly recommend the Victoria Sponge!), and on top of that, they also have a big cook shop selling all sorts of kitchenwares and delights! Their range of hot and cold foods for breakfast and lunch are both light bites and proper sized meals, not just coffee shop snacks. The food is usually home made or organic, and fresh, even freshly baked bread, which is wonderful! The staff are incredibly friendly, and happy to help, with great personalities, even learning regulars by name and even order! The venue itself is split into three areas, a dining area, a cook-shop, and a lounge area, the latter being quieter. My personal favourite food here is the Melted Crumbly Lancashire Cheese and Sticky Sausage Toasted Wholegrain Baguette! I’m licking my lips just thinking about it! The venue also holds various special occasions and gatherings.

Thyme is a wonderful place that Horwich has desperately needed for many years. In the face of a million-and-one greasy spoons, Thyme came along and opened up a space that was more reminiscent of somewhere in the suburbs of South Manchester, rather than a working class industrial village. Serving excellent soup, as well as catering for those who like a more boutique-y feel when shopping for niche groceries(such as chillies in oil and interesting bottles of booze and pop), Thyme is an absolute godsend. The layout is pretty spacious and has the feel of a co-op, which to my mind, is a rather charming trait. It’s 50% café, 50% deli. If you were visiting from out of town and stumbled across this place, you’d be pleasantly stunned. If you’re used to city prices, you’ll also be knocked for six when you see the portion sizes. It serves local produce and is always well stocked. It really is a hidden jewel in Northern England and the staff are all uniformly helpful and attractive. I can’t heap enough praise on this place.

The best coffee shop and deli in Horwich! Thyme provides the ideal spot for a coffee break or lunch break. The food is generally organic, home made and wholesome. A good selection of coffees and teas are available. I can recommend the potato skins with bacon and cheese, filo pastry triangles and couscous and the carrot cakes. The afternoon cream teas look srumptious. Excellent service even when all the tables are full. The range of products in the deli is fantastic, and you can order or make your own hampers providing the perfect gift. The deli also stocks Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding saving a long trip to the Lake District!

A great deli and café with a lovely range of fresh and well prepared food. As well as selling a wide range of deli products, Thyme also acts as a café with sandwiches, cakes etc. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the portion sizes and there is a great selection for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. The drinks menu is extensive as they have a wide range of teas(herbal and ordinary) and coffee as well as cold soft drinks. There is an emphasis on local produce and quality products and, as well as food, Thyme also have a cookshop that is very well stocked. Thyme has a wonderful and relaxed atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. It is open until around 5pm and therefore suitable for lunchtime eating and is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
