This was an absolute shambles from cradle to grave. First of all we went out for my partner’s birthday breakfast and we opted not to go for our first choice, which was Sainsbury’s ‘Big Brunch’ and instead head to this, even more local eatery. There were four of us plus two kids, and my friends opted for the lunch menu, in particular the sharing platter with sweet potato fries and my partner and I opted for the all-day breakfast. It was explained that we couldn’t be served until the kitchen reopened at 11.30am as they were stopping the breakfast menu and starting for the lunch time menu. We were told that if we ordered now(11.05am) then the kitchen could make our order right away as 11.30am approached. So we did that. The sharing platter came out as did our tea and coffee — which were cold. The sharing platter had little on it for two and the tortillas seemed to be cooked twice and didn’t have their natural crunch to it — think soggy cardboard left to dry in the sun. We were waiting for the breakfasts to arrive but this never happened, until we asked. It was explained that the staff thought the platter was the starter for all four of us(menu said for two) and that the breakfasts were for our mains(in what reality would any group split a single breakfast between two people?) we explained to an employee this was not the case and to have the breakfasts served soon as it was nearing 12noon and we had plans. The waitress went to check and never came back, this was at 11.55am. 12.05pm came and we enquired again to the duty manager on site who explained to us that the staff thought we were having the platter as starters and the breakfast as the mains, I advised her that we’d established that 15 minutes ago and just wanted our food. The breakfasts came out five minutes later with mushrooms and black pudding(which when ordering I asked not to have and replaced with other items), and as he was slicing through the egg and sausage my partner noticed his breakfast had a hair in it. Needless to say we weren’t impressed and we refused the breakfasts for our money back. The duty manager was so embarrassed she asked that the manager come speak to us. The manager came down and was entirely empathetic about what(was supposed to be a birthday meal) turned out to be a disaster at every opportunity. From the bar staff who sounded like we were hassling them for just ordering, to the three times we asked about our breakfasts. I am entirely understanding about the pressures faced by a busy food-serving, customer-facing establishment, but we were one of two tables on an otherwise quiet morning. The final response was to refund the bill — not to the original methods of payment — but to cash. At the very least, this is what any individual would expect for a meal they did not consume. I’d certainly be more inclined to query whether goodwill falls into this particular chain’s operating procedures, as there seemed to be little offered by way of an actual apology. Oh and the sweet potatoes never came out also!

Typical Brewers Fayre type place. Extremely busy when we went but staff tried their best to find us a table. Slow service. We had to wait 30 minutes for our food. Food was not gastro pub level quality but ok pub grub. A decent selection of beers and other drinks but too much emphasis on food to be a good boozer. If you can, go to a decent independent restaurant.

Gutted, thought I was going to be the first review but don’t think my listing worked! 4 stars at the moment as I’ve still to sit in and have more than CAKE! The place is going like a fair at the moment with staff doing their best to get everyone seated in a timely fashion. The staff are really friendly and go out their way to help/make you comfy. Good selection of softs and alcoholic drinks and your typical pub menu + carvery. The cakes look amazing and really are a foot high, though they are a bit style over substance, but when you need a sugary high, you can order cake away to munch in the comfort of your own home. Not that I’ve done that four times in the two weeks its been open. Nope, not me. Great to have somewhere round the corner to pop in to… just waiting on one of my mates to get back her holidays so we can try their prosecco and cakes combined!

Back tonight for dinner after some persuasion from my 7 year old who was dying to go & try the kids area. Still extremely busy due to just opening but loads of staff who seem able to cope under the pressure. Lovely outdoor seating, inside is split in 2, one kids section and one adults section. I think this is quite a good idea, it means if your in for a quiet meal you won’t have kids running all around you. Menu is your standard Pub Grub, burgers, Curry, Combos etc as well as a Carvery, Salad Bar, Cakeaway and an Ice Cream counter. There’s a huge bar with plenty of staff. It’s order at the bar so the area is really crowded with people ordering food/drink. I went for a Carvery. Not much to say about it, standard Carvery that you would purchase at any of the other chains/pubs. Nothing special but nothing really wrong with it either. The other half had Crispy Chicken topped with Italian hard cheese & tomato sauce, chips, peas & garlic mushrooms. He actually really enjoyed it and said the chicken was still moist and flavoursome. My little one had from the kids menu, 8 chicken nuggets and chips. They weren’t like the frozen shaped nuggets made from everything but chicken… They actually had quite a nice batter & were real chicken breast. He scoffed the lot! The cakes are absolutely huge, but again you have to wait in a queue to get one which put us off tonight as it was just too busy. The kids area is excellent and well equipped with a TV, XBox x4, Machines, Baby play area and soft toys. Keeps the kids busy instead of running in and out of tables etc. Nice addition. Overall the food was ok, I wouldn’t rush back but ok for a quiet Saturday night with a few drinks with the family. Nice local place for the nearby residents.
