The Wine Bar & Bistro

Very poor service from this establishment. A table for 9 persons had been booked for last Saturday to celebrate mine and my husband’s birthday but having arrived, they denied all knowledge of the booking despite confirming that pink and blue balloons would be on the table! We were left to find somewhere else at short notice. Fortunately, BANKS BISTRO in the village were brilliant and quickly made a table up for us. We had a fantastic meal and have vowed never to return to the wine bar!

Very nice placve for a good lunch meeting. Great food, attractive staff! and not too expensive. Being in a cellar it adds character.

The Wine Bar and Bistro is a lovely place to go for a meal on those special occasions (i.e. romantic dinner, celebration etc). It is located in the basement of the building but you completely forget that when you dine there. The décor is tasteful and the perfect balance has been struck between making it look like a very nice wine bar/​bistro, without it being pretentious or intimidating. The drinks are a bit on the expensive side but the price of the food, in comparison, is very reasonable — especially given the quality. They regularly run special evenings (Valentine’s Day, St Patrick’s Day) and the fixed price seems really good value (£30 for Valentine’s Day). The menu is displayed on the outside of the building (and it changes regularly — always a sign of a good restaurant!) so you can check it out before you go in. However, the restaurant has always been busy when we’ve gone in so I think it’s probably wise to book. This can be an expensive treat but, if you go easy on the wine, then it is very affordable and well worth a visit. I have been there for lunch once but, for some reason, it didn’t feel right. For me, dinner there is definitely the preferred option.

This is a cosy watering hole for those on a budget. The staff are friendly. They have a large party area on the first floor with a bar and plenty of informal seating. The bar snacks are expensive though.

This is possibly my favourite restaurant and I’m lucky enough to live just a 30 second walk away!
I love it here, its great for special occasions and perfect for romantic meals. They also accomodate for large parties really well.
It can be a bit expensive, although they do excellent specials which are always worth a try.
The staff are friendly and very informative!
You really have to go and see for yourself to really appreciate it!

open for lunch and evening meals, also has a seperate wine bar which is really nice just to go and relax in.
the food is very reasonable for the quality, the drinks are quite expensive but for now and again not extortionate.

The place it’s self is below ground level with quite low ceilings but very cool with lots of little areas it doesn’t feel cramped (though very tall people may find that an issue).
the waiting staff are lovely too.
