Vee’s is a very pleasant little Deli opposite Hylton Street on Vyse Street. It’s a perfect stop off after visiting the nearby JQ Museum. I have ventured in several times as I live very close. Unusually for me, never once have I been disappointed. The food is solid mid-range price wise but always served up with free helpings of care and passion. This is often the difference of note in a genuine owner-run establishment and a ‘staffed’ place. The selection of deli items is a bit hit and miss and pricing can be on the more expensive side. However, I do recommend Vee’s own made marmalade … and I don’t usually like marmalade! So, pop in and chill a while. There aren’t many seats so you may feel the need to leave quicker than you may prefer if it’s busy. Service is always first rate. I used to order buffets when my charity had training courses running in the Big Peg and Vee’s team were always 100% reliable with their deliveries and pricing and quality was fine. Recommended!

With an unassuming entrance in the quieter area of the Jewellery Quarter, you very well might walk on by without ever experiencing the quiet delights of this lovely little independent Deli. As you walk in, it’s like walking into someones country kitchen with a twee sense of decoration and homemade tea and cakes being served to each table with a lovely friendly atmosphere. It’s a small venue(with only 5 or 6 tables), but it certainly is big on local flavour. Vee gets many of her ingredients locally and you can purchase hot food and drinks and while away some time inside the café or take away(if you’re in a hurry). I would urge you to make an order, find somewhere to sit and have a little look around the arts, crafts and locally produced goods she has in store to purchase. On our last visit we were really taken by the lovely greetings cards with scented wardrobe hangers in the shape of different animals(dolphins, ducks, pigs etc). If you’re looking for a special little gift, pop in and have a gander. As well as locally produced goods, there are cook books, speciality ingredients and a wide selection of meats and cheeses(as well as other home cooked delights) to take purchase. The jams and preserves looked positively delicious! In summary, it’s like a warm, homely and welcoming slice of country living slap bang in the middle of the designer/maker district of one of Birmingham’s gems, the Jewellery Quarter.

I almost didn’t go in here, because the solid wooden door looks a bit forbidding, but I’m really glad I ventured inside. It’s small and cozy with a hugely warm welcome. The food was delicious and freshly-prepared, and best of all the serve came with an enormous smile. Although they were busy, we didn’t feel as if we were being rushed to make room for the next arrivals — in fact the waitress was happy to stop by each table and chat. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a light lunch in the Jewellery Quarter.

I visited this Delicatessen(is it??) as a treat with my friend from Birmingham on the 4th of November. Honestly, I wasn’t impressed in the slightest. I had the chicken wrapped in parma ham with carmalised onion chuckney with salad. Sounds fanastic, but my plate was dirty and the food was below average for the price. Upsetting waste of my time.

Vee’s is a lovely little deli full of little delights as you will read on other reviews. However, I know about Vee’s through not one but two other places: Firstly, they are a regular trader in Jewellery Quarter’s very own food market, 24 Carrots(third Saturday of every month) where they have a sample of their gorgeous cheeses, crackers and cakes but I’ve also worked with them on two occasions. Whilst putting on the Birmingham Vintage Festival in the area, I wanted the visitors and indeed the other traders to be well-fed during the busy event. Vee’s are a delight to deal with and turned up with retro food in keeping with the event; we had quiche slices and sausage rolls followed by Victoria Sandwich, all in keeping with the 1970s theme! Of course they also had a huge variety of their large baguettes to keep everyone going too. Whatsmore, Vee and her staff are always ready with a smile whether it’s the first or 100th customer of the day. Whatever your treat of choice is, Vee’s are well worth a visit.

This is exactly how a delicatessen should be, quaint, cute, clean and friendly. Vee,(Valerie) has created a fabulous place here. Her knowledge of foods is top notch and this is obvious with what she has displayed in the glass counter. I counted half a dozen types of fresh meats and a large selection of beautiful looking cheeses. Her menu is pretty extensive and full of freshly made options. This place is perfect for lunch or afternoon tea. Vee has a staff that is a joy to watch at work, they actually look and behave like they want to be there, a rarity elsewhere. Hmmm, now what shall I have, I’m impressed with the variety but it’s making it difficult for me to make up my mind, it’s all so delicious, I want it ALL. Fresh breads and rolls, meats, cheeses, pickles and relishes, sauces, jams, then I spot the cakes!!! Freshly made oozing with cream filling, arrrrghh Vee! What are you doing to me? On my next visit, which will be very soon, I’m coming prepared with an empty stomach. Pop in, ask for Vee, tell her Ashley sent you.

Vee’s is the only artisanal deli I know of in the Jewellery Quarter. Because of this, I’m a fan straight away. She stocks a wide range of cheese(SO not my thing, but my other half ADORES her stuff! ‘Green Goblin’ was particularly popular over xmas!) but also makes her own cakes(yum) and biscuits(yum) and savoury foods… admittedly this is more for the meat eaters or those who eat egg and cheese, but she has done veggie pasties in the past which were yummy, and to be honest I’d be happy gorging on her cake! Also a great place to stop in to grab some posh cordials, teas and other drinks from her small range, or just to sit in for a coffee whilst wandering the JQ.

Vee’s is a great little place for a good cuppa and cake, especially if you are out and about with your Mum or if you are ladies that lunch and find yourself in the Jewellery Quarter. Not only are they a great little sandwich shop with good cake they are also a deli shop too. If you want speciality jams, wines and cheeses then you can probably find them here. Even though I can’t eat Vee’s cake any more they have a selection of Gluten Free products from me to buy as part of their deli selection not to mention the really yummy ice creams tubs they stock too. The food they stock is all carefully sourced for high quality ingredients and as local and independently produced as possible. Vee’s has a traditional tea room feel to it and is a bit on the small side but with the friendly atmosphere it doesn’t matter.

Vee’s is exactly how a deli should be: cosy without being cramped, simple, clean, staffed by genuinely friendly, enthusiastic staff and stocked with a broad range of fresh produce. They have a glass counter displaying a selection of meats, cheeses, salad and relishes and offer a variety of breads and rolls to ensure that unlike most lunch-time destinations, you won’t be stuck with the same couple of choices every time you visit. Vee’s also stocks jars of take-home pickles, sauces and jams, as well as freshly-made cakes, local wines, cheeses and produce. Sensing my indecisive nature, the staff were happy to offer samples of several sandwich fillings, allowing me to make the right choice before handing over my cash. The sandwiches are certainly not the cheapest in the area, but you are paying for the kind of quality you simply don’t get in the many cafes and independent sandwich shops I tend to frequent. I found myself savouring each bite of my baguette in order to appreciate everything from the freshness of the bread to the deep, rich flavour of the cheese. It’s a little off the beaten track, but if you are willing to take a five minute detour in search of a truly delicious sandwich, Vee’s comes with my highest recommendation.
