Remember this shop in the day of Bill and Doris and then John and Pat. I: was brought up on their fish and chips. They were the best. My Dad loved it. If I were to choose my last meal, it would have to be fish and chips — Bedder style. Have not been in since it was taken over. Hope the new owners are keeping up the tradition!

Bedders is an absolute Birmingham institution and can still lay claim to the best fish and chips for miles. There fish is incredibly fresh and not over battered. The staff are so friendly and welcoming you’ll want to keep going back. I even love just driving past just before lunch opening and seeing the queue forming. The last time we went we chose to eat in at lunch time and it was a great experience. Fish, chips, white bread with butter and a side of mushy peas never tasted so good. Really for £5.50, including a cuppa, that is a complete bargain. Not a fan of the mushys? Well then you can have curry sauce or gravy. There opening times are pretty limited lunch times 11:30 — 2:00 and tea time 4:30 — 7:00.

As much as I love a plateful of vibrant and rich spicy food, nothing can compare to the simplicity of good old-fashioned British fish’n’chips! And where better to get them than an award-winning chippy! Bedders is a family-run business that has been passed down for three generations. So, not only are they passionate about their chips, the culinary art of preparing them has been passed down as a legacy. Ask just about any Brummie and they would have at least heard of Bedders. In my opinion, they make the best fish and chips I have ever tasted anywhere in the world. In fact, they’re so successful that they’re only open a few hours a day. They’re the only place I know of that still wrap chips in newspapers, which gives such a unique texture to the chips. I love their vinegar-soaked onions as a complimentary addition to a perfect packet of chips.

Yummy Yummy Fish and Chips!!! Crispy fresh fish(that doesn’t smell) and chunky chips. By far the best takeout i have never experienced in Birmingham. The only real issue i have found with this place is the very long wait. I am a keen believer that food like Fish and Chips should be served and eaten quick time. The staff are friendly and quick, there is seating available inside however i have always opted to takeout.

I’m surprised i’m the first person reviewing for Bedders! All brummies know, Bedders is probably the best chippy in the UK. If your new to the town, make this the first stop. Typically it costs around £5 for a plate of fish and chips, it comes with tea and buttered bread.

Bedders has long had the reputation of best chip shop in Birmingham(or even further?). Apparently it was sold to new owners a couple of years ago and isn’t what it was, but personally, I think the food is far better than that in any of the other local chippies. £3.90 for quality fish and chips, good stuff. It’s only open for a couple of hours a day, at lunchtime. Apparently it also opens on Friday evenings though I’ve not seen this with my own eyes. There used to be huge queues out the door every lunchtime(which explains how the place can be profitable when opening only two hours a day) but lately I’ve been able to walk in and get served straight away.
