The business has recently closed down, a shame as it used to be a really nice place away from hustle and bustle of city centre yet within reasonable distance.

Great location on St Paul’s Square but unfortunately only a few seats at the front that make the most of this. Beer garden at the back is a bit of a car park, but fine if you just want to smoke. It is clean and well kept and the drinks selections is reasonable — I stuck to pineapple juice though on Sunday(£1.85). It is great however if you are a large party and want to sit and chill with friends and perhaps play some board games as it’s not too buys(on Sundays anyway) and there is plenty of room to move tables and chairs about:)!

Ahhhh The Ropewalk… I really can’t complain too much about this little venue as I seem to have visited it a fair amount recently, but I shall try and explain in as fair a manner as possible why it’s Just a 3 star… The Ropewalk is one of the many venues situated on the very beautiful St Paul’s Square in the Jewellery Quarter. It really is quite grand looking from the outside with it’s faux greek columns and clean, historic looking exterior. It’s clearly quite well kept and is always clean inside. That’s about all I can say about the venue itself… it’s pretty soulless with no clear target market or USP. Again, that being said, it does have a little beer garden/terrace out back, although this is situated as such that it’s nearly always in the shade. Nice in the hot summer weather, not so nice in the spring breeze. There are two main reasons to visit this venue: 1) It’s nearly always empty. This is a real bonus if you want to grab some friends and find somewhere that you are guaranteed a seat for a group of you. It managed to accommodate nearly 20 goths with board games yesterday without any struggle. Obviously, this is not so good if you want somewhere with a bit of bustle and atmosphere(which you sometimes want and sometimes don’t). 2) It’s probably now the cheapest pub in the whole JQ. With pints starting as low as £2 and bottles of wine from £7, you really can’t complain. The food is pretty reasonable as well, cheap and cheerful pub grub type stuff. The staff are perfectly friendly and helpful, although we were a little put out when the kitchens closed before 4pm in this venue yesterday. With a group of 20 or so hungry people looking to grab some food, you would think they would make the call to either warn us the kitchens were closing or keep it open a little longer, rather than lose out on another £50+ in food revenue. Although this is a good, solid venue in the day; Friday and Saturday nights are another matter all together. The term«Meat Market» cannot be more perfect a term to describe the atmosphere on weekend evenings. Last time myself and a couple of fellow Unilocalers popped down for a quick, cheap drink we were totally blown away by the awful sleazy atmosphere(and terrible«Deejaying»). So… In Summary… Go. Use the Venue. It’s really not bad, it’s just not. Special. Just for the love of all that is holy — AVOID on Friday and Saturday nights(unless you like the meat market style atmosphere of Broad Street in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter).

I’ve only ever been here in the week, so it may be completely different on the weekends… There’s nothing horribly wrong with this place. It’s in a good location and is clean with well looked after furnishings. There’s just something a little… lacking. There is zero atmosphere which is a total let down considering the grandiose appearance of the entrance. The food is nothing special here– in fact, nothing is special here. The main thing that this place has going for it is that it’s cheaper than all of the other pubs in the area, but frankly I’d rather pay a little more and go somewhere else most of the time. Either that or go to a Whetherspoons, as to be honest this place seems like a wannabe ‘spoons. Saying that, if you’re looking for a quiet, cheap drink in a clean setting and you’re in the area, I suppose you could do worse.

This pub is one of my locals, so I’ve visited it many times. It’s not the best in the area, but it’s quite good for a quiet evening drink during the week. When it’s quiet, it’s very spacious and they have really comfortable sofas, but when it’s busy, the music is blaring, and it can get a little rowdy.

If you’re looking to enjoy an evening drinking with friends then you could do far worse than doing a mini pub crawl round Saint Paul’s Square. Here you’ll be suitably equipped with a choice of bars, restaurants and a club(Jam House). We decided to start with a quick drink in the Rope Walk pub as from the outside it looked gorgeous and in fitting with the Georgian feel of the buildings in the square. We went in on a Thursday evening and if was pretty quiet. There was no music on in the background and not much atmosphere because of this. We ordered a drink but decided to move on afterwards. I’d say this is a good pub if you’re looking to have a quiet drink and some food with a friend but not to get you in the mood for the nights drinking ahead.

Don’t be deceived by the appearance of this pub. Located on the border of St Paul’s Square, you would expect this place to be vaguely good or at least a bit quirky but it’s not at all. The Rope Walk somehow manages to lack the atmosphere of your local Wetherspoon’s and their food is pretty rubbish. The only thing this pub has going for it is a few picnic tables outside but even they are redundant as the lush lawns of St Paul’s are just out front.

This modern bar oozes class, I initially felt out of sorts but their is a soothing mood in the unusual bar. It isn’t your typical layout but there is plenty of space. I decided the hustle and bustle of Broad Street was not to my fancy and thought it was time for new scenery. I am glad I made that choice, The Rope Walk surrounded by other various bars and restaurants made for a good starting point for me and friends, one we can talk and enjoy quality drinks. It is not cheap and for that reason we moved on. I feel as though I can only judge this bar on being exactly that as I didn’t visit it on any particular night and didn’t order food. I will be visiting here again shortly as I enjoyed what I did experience.

I would not recommend going here for lunch if you have 1 hour or less. Strange as this is the usual time working people have for lunch. The service although pleasant is very slow. Today I ordered 3 simple meals at 13:12 and they arrived at 13:47 leaving me a whole 8 minutes to eat it before having to dash back to work. When I enquired as to when it would be ready I was told it was being plated up but still took over 5 mins to plate up the food. The food was luke warm at best. If the pub was busy I could understand but during the time we were waiting 2 breakfasts came out and 2 deserts. Considering the amount of workplaces surrounding the pub one would think that they would have more than 1 person working behind the bar who not only has to serve behind the bar but also deal with the distribution of food and clear tables.

The Rope Walk is a located on St. Paul’s Square, providing a pleasant, friendly atmosphere with plenty of comfortable seating and a good selection of drinks. Unsurprisingly, given its location, it’s not a cheap place to drink, but compared to other bars in the area it ranks as one of the best in terms of value for money. There is an outdoor drinking area out the back overlooking the car park, which gives you the opportunity to escape for a bit of quiet conversation and a smoke, if that’s your thing. The Rope Walk is a very down to earth drinking experience, well-presented and perfect for lunch-time drinks, after work relaxation and a place to fuel up before heading over to The Jam House.

Looks nice inside(it has chandeliers!), with some comfy sofa and although it can be slightly more expensive it also has deals on from time to time(was 1.50 for a pint of stella recently). Although i haven’t eaten there myself i’ve heard some good things about it from other people. A good place for a drink after work.

Nice location at St Pauls Square, slightly out of Birmingham and slightly more expensive which weeds out the binge drinkers slightly and give a much more relaxed environment. This is still a pub though and fun — staff are friendly too.

This really is one of those pubs where you feel right at home. The décor, staff and general layout makes for a very comfortable time here. Large sofas, wooden furniture and modern furnishings ooze a unique, contemporary style. Whether it be for a relaxing glass of wine or a lazy lunch, this really is the perfect place to go. Situated in the heart of the very pretty St Paul’s Square, the Rope Walk is affordable yet elegant and can be busy yet still retains a relaxing atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to catch up with old friends, go for after work drinks or relax for a work lunch. There is no doubt that you will want to return again and again.
