This place is probably my favourite for cocktails! I’ve never eaten here but I’m yet to try. It’s quite expensive but so worth it. I usually have the ‘love heart’ cocktail and my partner has the ‘wild ting’ which comes on fire! The drinks aren’t that big so you normally have to have a few. The place itself is interesting as its Alice and wonderland themed. The small garden outside has wall art everywhere which makes it fun. It’s normally busy with business men around half 5. The upstairs is just the restaurant I think, but it’s much nicer and completely different from the downstairs. 5 out of 5.

Fantastic quirky bar with a great cocktail selection and extensive gin menu :) Very friendly staff and the bar and outside area is decorated with ‘Alice in Wonderland’ inspired art: D Fun and edgy, great place to grab an after work drink or two ;)

Discovered this bar via the Birmingham Independent List(great list of independent businesses to support) and had to try it out. Have only ever experienced the downstairs bar, upstairs is a gin parlour with a more extensive gin menu and evening entertainment, but involves booking in. There’s nothing wrong with the downstairs bar though– although be prepared it is small and it does get packed out. Fabulous gin on offer all with recommended garnishes and Fever Tree and 1724 tonic among others. Bar staff able to help with garnish and gin recommendations! Recently stopped off for food with my sister an mum, both had burgers which they seriously enjoyed– beef patties topped with gin marinated chicken! Amazing! I was a bit more boring and had bangers and mash, however the mash was perfect and the sausages very tasty– could’ve had more gravy though. Love the innovative cocktails too– the Hyde Park gin cocktail in a watering can is by far my favourite! Also the Heisenberg– served in an Erlimyer flask with plenty of tequila. Jekyll and Hyde is a place I have been to a few times now and will be back again soon I hope.

Fantastic! Thank you Unilocalers for recommending this place, you lit up my Good Friday! This place is ever bit as good as the reviews, if not better. I arrived just after lunch on Good Friday and found ample space for sitting down and an unpretentious atmosphere. The lady serving me took time to recommend me a drink based on my tastes. The first recommendation which was phenomenal, a gin and lychee liqueur cocktail served in a teacup. So quaint and it tasted like something out of a dream… Amazing! My other cocktail was a wray ting. Wow that cocktail got lit up. The mention of fire and wray and nephew, my favourite overproof rum, this drink was easily sold to me. It’s a long style cocktail drink and was so strong! The ideal way to get ready for a football match. Tip: blow out the fire quickly and turn the lime over, so all the alcohol doesn’t burn away! ;) For these two cocktail spectaculars, I spent the hefty price of £12 loooool! An absolute steal. Fetch the horses, I’m heading back to brum for another cocktail, as we speak, who is coming?!

I have to say the Jekyll and Hyde has to be one of my favourite bar’s in the city. From the outside it looks like a traditional pub(albeit in a distinctive Purple colour) and once you enter you start to see that it is much more. The Bar itself is incredibly charming with a mixture of vintage and art-deco hints with one of the most well stocked bars you will find in the city. The cocktail menu is a complete delight with a range of cocktails to suit all tastes not just your standard fare but some quite unique and also locally inspired ones to sample. The bar itself caters heavily for fans of gin which won me over however I would say if you’re not the range of cocktails is allencompasing and many have quite unique touches such as being served in watering cans, tea cups or one in a victorian ceramic bath tub. At the back is an enclosed outdoor area with a range of alice in wonderland inspired murals and motifs which are fantastically done. Upstairs on Saturdays is the gin parlour with the largest selection of gin I have ever seen served mostly in the traditional way of tea pots and tea cups. Well worth a visit.

I do really love going to The Jekyll & Hyde, I just have to pick the right time to visit. It always gets so packed in there that I have visited a few times and had to leave because I felt so overwhelmed. However when I have had a chance to order and get a seat, I have loved it. The cocktails are so good and imaginative. The staff are a credit.

A tiny, quirky little cocktail bar/pub. I know there is a ‘gin parlour’ upstairs but I’ve never been so can only comment on downstairs. I’ve also not eaten here, but it looks like good quality pub grub. The burgers look great and I’ve heard rumours of a gin based menu. What I go here for is the cocktails. They’ve changed a little since the first time I visited and now seem to be focused on ‘sweetie’ cocktails. I love the parma violet based one. The spirits are all great quality and I love having the little sweetie in it! The jam jar cocktails are reduced at certain times. Staff are all very friendly and will have a little chat about what they are making you. The only problem is that it is a tiny venue. Charming but diffuclt to find a seat!

Great cocktails and cool atmosphere! Let down by the rude ‘hipster’ staff.

Friday night in The Jekyll and Hyde, downstairs is rammed and loud. Upstairs in the gin parlour tho is a hidden gem! Not busy at all, funky retro music, all table service, amazing cocktails, incredible range of gins, waiter who knows everything about gin(and i do mean everything!) Oh and 1724 tonic to go with my tanquaray rangpur!(I have an unhealthy love for this tonic which, typically, can not be found in a shop for love nor money!) I’d not been in for ages, though always remembered it fondly, am glad i came back. It got better! :-)

This is a really good cocktail bar. My wife and I went there at about 11pm in a Saturday night and the atmosphere was great. Nice and busy and decent music. The cocktails are fantastic. The only down side was we accidentally went upstairs to the Gin Parlour which is a hipster haven where you can only sit down if you order some gin. And you can’t take your drink that you order downstairs. Very odd.

Situated a short walk from Colmore Row, the Jekyll and Hyde has been serving up great cocktails and beer for years now. Its part of the Bitters and Twisted group(Island bar, Victoria, Bodega etc), and like those venues it has its own unique vibe. Inside theres loads of quirky touches, with quite a focus of aristocratic canines(no idea) and some old 20s style art. Downstairs(the Hyde part) has a buys cocktail bar feel, bartenders working themselves to the bone to get the(prepared from scratch) cocktails out to the throng of customers. Upstairs is a gin parlour that is pretty damn swanky. There is also a beer(gin?) garden at the back with plenty of seating. The drinks are fantastic and unusual, and best of all, all totally reasonably priced at about £6 for a cocktail. I’ve not had food here but it looks good too. Along with typical bar related activities, they also hold gin tasting classes upstairs in the gin parlour, with plenty of gin to go around. One thing to watch is that the venue is right next door to the Juvenile Court and as a result you can encounter some less than friendly types on the way in, not a huge issue, just worth bearing in mind as you enter! The Jekyll & Hyde really adds something different to the bar scene of Birmingham city centre, and should definitely be included as a stop of any respectable bar crawl through the town!

Looking for gin, this place specialises in gin. I had Hoxton’s, Ophir, Gin Mare, Langley’s, yeah it was good. I also had sweet potato chips which I enjoyed. Just the atmosphere and loud music I didn’t like. A little small and gets very busy even on a weekday. Everyone ends up shouting over each other.

Any place that has happy hour prices all day on a Saturday is excellent in my eyes. This meant a variety of sweetie-flavoured cocktails were £4 each. I had a Parma Violet and a Turkish Delight and then unfortunately it was midnight and they stopped serving. A nice bar overall.

I really like cocktails. I like really GOOD cocktails. I like quirky venues with alternative undertones. The Jekyll & Hyde pretty much fits the bill. An Alice in Wonderland themed garden, Victoriana and retro plaster the walls. Almost seedy in its –outthewayness– this tiny bar has not failed to deliver yet. Their cocktails taste exactly how they describe, take the lemon bon bon for example. It is like drinking sweets. Lovely, alcoholic sweets. A little on the small side, if you fancy a quiet cocktail try to avoid happy hour. Nevertheless, if you want a good cocktail I would try these guys out.

The bar downstairs is quite small, although the beer garden/smoking area has tables and chairs, so if the weather is nice, that gives you some extra space. The upstairs area is where the magic happens though, as this is where you get to try all of the gin cocktails! I’ve always said that I don’t like gin, however it appears that there are loads of kinds, and some of them are actually pretty nice! Especially in cocktails. Watching some of them being made is entertainment in itself, so it’s a great place to come with friends when you feel like something a bit different. The burgers here are incredible too. Possible among the best I’ve ever tasted! The chips are thick with the skin on, but incredibly crisp on the outside, and fluffy on the inside.

I love the Jekyll and Hyde. Part of the Bitters and Twisted group, the Jekyll specialises in gin, with a dedicated Victorian gin parlour upstairs boasting a huge variety of gins. They serve a large range of cocktails(and yes, there’s a happy hour, get stockpiling!) including the Dorchester cocktail– a Hendricks based cocktail served in a teapot, with teacup-cum-cocktail glasses. Bartenders are very well versed in cocktails, and if you can’t pick your gin, ask for a recommendation, Of course they still serve a decent range of other spirits, beers and wine, and gave a lovely little bar downstairs plus a fairly sizeable courtyard. They host a fair few evenings and events, including film nights and I hear that the food is excellent. The gin parlour can be hired for your event. So. If you’re looking for something a bit different, this is the place.

Here for Langleys No.8 event. Superb gin! I also know not of another bar that sports a parlour of gin and the flavours within are divine.

Quite a small bar downstairs though the drink selection is fairly wide. Their speciality is of course their gin cocktails. These are approx. £6 but you could spend most of the night just trying to decide which one to have!(Palma violets is one of my favourites) Never felt I’ve chosen badly though! They even do gin baths where people can share cocktails! The smoking area is decorated in an Alice in Wonderland theme and with the music playing and heat lamps on you can feel quite cosy! upstairs can be booked for private even(free if you spend a certain amount behind the bar I believe). It has a wonderful Victorian-feel to the décor and is worth dressing up for. They also serve food but it’s wise to book in advance if you want a table.

Visited here for the first time last week for cocktails. Free WiFi, amazingly polite staff and amazing vibe to the place — completely in love with their Lemon BonBon cocktails but not only that, upon asking them if they had anything more cherry-y they whipped up an amazing cherry cocktail for me on the spot with all of my favourite tastes once I mentioned things I liked and things I didn’t like. Cannot recommend enough and cannot wait to return! Thank you Jekyll & Hyde!

We arrived at The Jekyll and Hyde at about 8pm on a Saturday night and it was already extremely busy and couldn’t find a single spare seat anywhere! There was a lively, buzzing atmosphere and a mixed crowd, making it welcoming and not intimidating at all like some cocktail bars can be. Despite the lack of available seating, we decided to order a cocktail each anyway in the hope that somewhere would become free whist we were at the bar. I decided to order the Pear Drops cocktail. It was served in a cute little jam jar topped with two pear drop sweets, and it’s these quirky little touches like this that make me fall in love with The Jekyll and Hyde every time I visit! The cocktail itself was delicious and sweet and I really enjoyed it. As a bonus, they’re happy hour runs all day on a Saturday so it was only £4 too! The bar staff were really friendly and quick at making the cocktails too, and despite it being a very busy Saturday night we were served straightaway. Unfortunately we had to stand the whole time we were there and as a result we drank our cocktails way too quickly! We would of all preferred to sit down, relax and savour our drinks instead, and I definitely would of bought another cocktail if there had been somewhere to sit as the first was so yummy. So although our visit to The Jekyll and Hyde was brief, we really enjoyed the cocktails and in future plan to return but arrive earlier so we that can definitely get seats and spend a full evening here!

As this was the ‘local’ to University, i spent a lot of time here as a student and i continue to do so as a member of the working world. The cocktails are varied and extensive. I’ve tried a lot of them but my personal favourite is the Wild Ting, a concoction of rum and Ting which is set alight! The food is also worth mentioning. There are often deals on the lunches and in the evenings there are such deals as ‘2−4−1 fish and chips. My particular favourite is the pulled pork burger, though if you want that order it quick as they run out quite often! If you have the chance and it’s not raining, go out back and sit in the Alice in Wonderland garden out back and check out the art on the walls.

This is a incredibly Bijoux bar with a good vibe. It feels a bit more upmarket when compared to the rest of the chain, but I feel this could be due to the Victorian Gin theme. The staff in here are excellent. I asked them to make me a non-alcoholic cocktail last night and was whipped up a gem for the eyes and tastebuds. However, again, if you don’t get here in Happy Hour and want a cocktail — you’re paying from £6.00+ — so not a cheap option for a night out. Last time I ate here(Booking is a must by the way, if you want to eat!), I had the Sea bass with Sanphire — which was fabulous. The Ginger cake dessert was lovely too. The lunch menu is quite reasonable(and there is a loyalty card scheme — meaning you can earn a free lunch if you eat out regularly). A MUST for Gin fans. Good for a night out with the girls or the start of a big night out. Aim for Happy Hour and keep in mind Thursday/Friday/Saturday is VERY busy(but — top tip — you can reserve tables in advance).

This pub is something special. As you walk in the cozy and chilled out atmosphere makes you feel very contented, Jovial and welcome. The pub of a night is quite dark, candlelit and has some awesome art on the walls like dogs dressed in Victorian and Edwardian attire and obviously Jekyll & Hyde. Many cool and friendly people around. Nice, impressive bar. Good friendly staff. The music is subtle in the background, allowing you to engage in convo. There is a beer garden our back and upstairs is a seductive cocktail bar with friendly staff. More of a sophisticated retreat upstairs. The cocktail menu is predominantly Gin. Wide range of Gin with mixers — a must for Gin lovers. I had a Vesper Martini and ironically the James bond theme was playing in the background as i took my first sip. For the road, i had a lovely Whiskey sour made with Jim Beam Honey. There is a nice pie menu and food menu looks good. This place has to be checked out — one of Birmingham’s finest!!!

The best burger I had in Birmingham came from here. Seriously good. Their quizzes are a mainstay for my group of women. Plus, you can win a bottle if spirits as the prize! Nice. The only downside is that is is very small.

Part of a consortium of Birmingham’s best pubs and restaurants, Jekyll & Hyde won the close race to be my favourite by having cocoa puff cocktails. What seems to be a delightful slurry of rice crisp cereal and chocolate milk served in a tiny bowl is strong enough to have you stumbling on your next trip to the bar. They’ve got a range of other beautiful, unusual and delicious cocktails as well. I can hazily remember some sort of cocktail with custard and teapots full of brightly colored booze. The food is also perfect! last time I was in I had a game pie that paired well with the sugary cocktails and cheerful atmosphere. Their desserts looked brilliant but I’m afraid I got sidetracked by a parma violet cocktail and forgot to order one. Will try again this weekend! There is a gin bar upstairs as well, with prettily arranged faux Victorian decorations. Though I must confess that I’ve only darted through it on my way to the(equally pretty) toilets. The bartenders are beautiful without being arrogant and most of the clientèle mirrors this as well. Popping in on a weekend night will leave you crushed up against well dressed merrymakers but as everyone is charming, it’s hardly a chore. Get there early if you must have a seat. The prices run a bit steep but getting there for happy hour will let you both grab a seat and start your party early and affordably.
