So this is a late review, I believe Laura C and I visited in September/Octobsr time. It was Laura’s choice but I must say she picked a good one. It’s next to the Ikon Gallery near Brindley Place, meaning you walk away from the busy Broad Street into a court yard with a few other bars and restaurants inside. We met around 6:45 after work in the week, there is some tables outside but I was a bit too nippy for that. The entrance way holds a water feature, plants, oriental ornaments and statuettes. Greeted with a customary bow by the staff we were seated, I did notice how quiet the place was — followed by why? Was there something wrong? Don’t worry every table was filled within the hour. It was so long ago I can’t remember the order very well, but I know I had the stir fried prawns with noodle and a black cherry dessert for afters. Usually in these places they focus more on the starters and mains and less on dessert I’m happy to say that wasn’t the case. Whilst it’s not as much variety as some other restaurants there was not a banana fritter insight.

Went to Thai Edge for the Valentine’s day set menu, and I have to say I was very disappointed. The service was fine, but the food was simply subpar. The sauces are sugary(a sign of covering up weak cooking). Most of the set menu was deep fried, and the scallops were over cooked to the point of ridiculous. We we’re hoping for something reasonably healthy, but got typical chain junk food instead.

I’ve been meaning to try Thai Edge for a while. My dad is a huge fan of Thai so it seemed a good place to take him as he was in town. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great. It’s stylish and classy. There are a good few table tucked in bit they are well spaced so you can enjoy your meal in reasonable privacy. We were offered the set menu but decided to go for our own mix of dishes. All of the food was exquisite, from the rice to the curries. The wide selection means there is something for everyone. I always have a test dish; something I eat in every restaurant. Here it was the chicken green curry. I’m glad to say it stood up to the rest! The staff were attentive during the meal, but afterwards things did slow down a bit and we had to wait quite a while for the bill. Also the dessert menu was limited and not very inspired, which was a shame. Not that I had room on this visit! Thai edge isn’t cheap. But it has the taste to go with the price tag. If you want something tasty and exotic, you could do a lot worse than going here. Oh, and by the way, my signature cocktail is the Margarita. If you’re offering ;)

Having not been here for over two years, I decided it was time to re-visit this restaurant again with nine ladies in tow. I remember from my first dining experience the food was of good quality, and I am glad to day that was still the case. Whilst waiting in the foyer for the others to arrive, we were given a drinks menu which included a number of cocktails and mocktails such as mojitios, and an extensive wine list. Once seated five of us decided to opt for one of the set menus, which made the ordering easy :-) whilst the others chose individual dishes off the main menu. There is so much choice — 145 dishes to choose from! Everyone enjoyed their food, and were delighted with the choice of restaurant. My set menu starter included prawns wrapped in filo pastry, dim sum, spring rolls, chicken satay and chicken wrapped in a vine leaf. All of which were very tasty. The main dishes included pork, beef, Thai green curry, vegetables and egg fried rice. Again all the food was very tasty, although just a bit too spicy for me. The green curry was especially tasty, and the sauce had a real kick to it. The service was great up until a couple of ladies decided to order tea and coffee. It took about 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive, and then when we wanted to settle our bill and pay individually for some reason the waitress was incapable of doing that(as some ladies needed to pay on card) and the bill included a service charge. Long story but it all got unnecessarily complicated but sorted in the end! I would return to this restaurant again as it has a nice ambience, lovely décor and we sat at a circular table so it was easy to talk to everyone. The booking process was easy via the top table website, and when numbers increased for dinner on a couple of occasions they were accommodating. If you enjoy Thai food then go pay this restaurant a visit.

Eaten here a few times, great location and good quality food. Not overly laden with MSG — my g/f can’t eat food like that and gets ill she’s fine eating here though. tasty soups, good starter selection and excellent main courses — have tried a few. Curries are good choice. Lamb was a little on the light side, king prawns are plentiful and big in size. Service can be a little slow and some waiting staff have poor English — made some mistakes on our drinks orders. All in all a good Thai restaurant.

Used to visit Thai edge very regularly. The food has always been pretty good. My last few experiences have not been the best, served stale prawn crackers and the communication problems between staff and customers. They have tried to cram in to many tables in small spaces making dining some times uncomfortable

I have no problems recommending this restaurant to anyone. With delightful and exquisite fine food and traditional greetings, to wonderfully dressed waiters, this eatery ticked all of my boxes. Thai Edge has been voted as ‘TOP10′ best Thai restaurants in the UK, by The TIMES, and also won the Independents ‘1 of the Top 10 Asian restaurants in the UK’ accolades! The cuisine is contemporary with well balanced flavours and spices. 2 Courses start from just £8.95 and they offer soups, salads, grilled and fried options, & satay as starters. Mains include stir fried dishes, curry and noodles. Eat here and this will be one of the places you’ll not forget, but also come back to. Loved it.

I was mostly unfamiliar with Thai food when I visited Thai Edge. It was a surprise choice by my other half as a birthday treat which seemed unusual as neither of us had eaten Thai food in the 10 years we’d been together. but I was excited to try something different. The menu is massive, and rather overwhelming for someone unfamiliar with the cuisine. Fortunately, being vegetarian narrowed my choices dramatically — though they do have a ‘Vegetables’ menu, and they even offer a vegetarian set menu! Alas, as I rarely go to restaurants with any other vegetarians, I couldn’t choose the set menu as no one would share it with me, and it was a minimum of 2 people.(GRUMP!) Instead I opted for a red Thai curry(Gaeng Ped Pak) which was sweet and fragrant with just enough heat — though it was somewhat watery. The ambience inside felt much classier than the places we would normally visit for dinner so that was nice, though I was somewhat embarrassed when my slightly inebriated other half tried to eat the table decorations as he insisted that everything was edible. Make of that what you will!

As ever when i’m faced with a huge menu of well over 100 items it is hard to make a decision. Usually i’ll go for the obvious; A Thai Green Curry. On this occasion we were lucky enough not to have to make that decision; our waiter recommended we try one of the set menus giving us the option to pick and choose between several courses. We went for the Royal Orchid Menu at £21.50 per person. It includes a platter starter of five choices so beautifully presented it was a shame to eat it but with the smell of sweet Satay drifting past it wasn’t long until the pretty platter was thoroughly demolished. The mains come in not too large bowls but we struggled to eat them all. The Green Chicken Curry was, as expected, delicious. The Beef in the Mussaman melted away and everything felt amazingly fresh and zesty. Although not usually a fan of Noodles even the Pad Thai was great. Not too much chilli or ginger but enough to hint it was there. Vegetarians are very well catered for with a set menu or classic curry’s offered up with vegetables rather than meat. The seafood lover is particularly spoilt with mussels, squid, sea bass and scallop dishes(I liked the look of ‘Choo Chee Pla Salmon’: fillet salmon in a choo chee curry pasted the coconut milk). Meat eaters have choices of dishes including Duck, pork, beef, lamb(how about ‘Panang Gae’: lamb cooked dry in Panang paste and coconut cream garnished with lime leaves and red chilli). It’s hard to fault Thai Edge; delicious food, a recent refurbishment offering contemporary and relaxed surroundings, a hustling vibe of people. I’ve already picked my next choices.

Conveniently located in the heart of Birmingham, Thai Edge is a frequent stop among ICC conference goers b/c of its convenience. While the ambience, décor, and presentation is wonderful, the challenge is with the food. Every dish presented on the menu was overloaded w/MSG. In fact, I had 9 glasses of water over 2 hours and as I write this review, I am still thirsty. The MSG in the food is overdone to the point it leaves a bitter after taste. When confronted with this, the owner shrugged her shoulders and said that’s how it would be. Too bad, b/c this place could have a lot of potential.
