This is a well stocked art supplies shop with a strong feeling of independence. The staff were friendly and informed.

Spectrum is a really good art supplier and will have most things you could want to paint or draw. The only thing I find not so good is the price of items prices can be a lot more expensive then on the net. But still a grate shop.

Fletchers Walk is really a Birmingham speciality shop arcade. As such Spectrum specialises in fine art and graphic materials. They stock a range of art and design consumerables from paints to canvasses. Who’d have thought browsing a range of artistic materials could be so pleasurable? I think it’s got something to do with my school days, getting excited by the all the brand new stationery I had to start the new school year off in the best possible way. Clearly though, the materials available here are for those capable of knocking out something a bit more sophisticated than a finger painting or papier mache model. In fact, Spectrum is mindful of the local students and offers a 10 percent discount to those studying at the local universities. The relative proximity to the Art Gallery may just give you that bit of inspiration you need before you pay a visit to complete your next masterpiece.

Spectrum is a well stocked artist supplies shop based in Fletcher’s Walk, which is the weird shopping subway linking the library and Town Hall to Broad Street(not to be confused with Paradise Forum, which it inevitably will be due to my bad description of the location). I usually go to Spectrum to buy foam board and drawing pens but they sell tons of great stuff. Don’t bother with their website as it’s currently not very useful. Maybe they’ll up their game online when they relocate to Corporation Street. I’ll be glad when they move as I always found Fletcher’s Walk to be a bit out of the way.

Recently, I’ve been feeling rather creative but I haven’t known what to do with it. I’ve never studied art and I didn’t really know what my options were. A friend of mine recommended that I try my hand at painting. At first I had visions of drawing fruit bowls and naked bodies which I didn’t really fancy. But afterwards, I thought perhaps I could use a variety of colours and make something abstract! So I went along to Spectrum and after rambling on a little bit to the shop assistant, he started to understand my unclear vision and help get me the tools I need to set my creative side free! I ended up purchasing 2 small and 1 large blank canvas and a number of brightly coloured paints along with a paint brush. As well as helping me buy the equipment, the assistant recommended some techniques a couple of useful books to inspire me which I was very grateful for.

Spectrum has long been established as Birmingham’s finest art supplies store. Currently based in Fletcher’s Walk they will be moving as of 1st August 2012 to a new shop next to the law courts on Corporation Street. The owners and staff are people who really know their stuff and they always go the extra mile to ensure you get the right product. If they don’t stock what you are looking for they will do their best to source and order in. I often buy card and paper from them but the shop stocks much more than this so well worth a visit. An essential shop for anyone studying, or with an interest in, fine art or graphics.

Another specialist store located in the somewhat dingy arcade of Fletcher’s Walk, Spectrum Fine Art Supplies is a wonderful little one-stop shop for all your artistic needs. They stock a comprehensive range of easels, canvases, paper and card, as well as materials ranging from pastels to chalk through to all manner of watercolour, oil and acrylic paints. They also stock a great selection of high quality stationery and tools to help you create your masterpiece. The staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable when you’re in search of that certain something, either for yourself or as a gift. A number of starter packs are available, too, so that you can try a selection of paints before shelling out on the more professional-sized containers. Although the shop is crammed full of everything you could imagine an aspiring artist would need, it’s all arranged so as to be easy to find what you’re after. Spectrum is an essential shop for anyone serious about the quality of their art supplies.

One of the few surviving specialist art & craft suppliers in the city centre. Totally independent. Situated in off the beaten track in the grotty and dated Fletcher’s Walk(cheap rent?!), but still relatively easy to get toSimply cross the road from the Town Hall walking through the ‘shopping arcade’ towards Alpha Tower and you will see it about half way down on the Left hand side. A good selection of fine arts, model and general craft materials as well as project portfolios, folders etc. Helpful staff. Fair prices. Student discounts available. Recommended!
