My go-to place for formal wear. Friendly staff who are not there to pump you for money for a suit, shirt or shoes. They are there to give you a great service and get you to go back next time for more items. They give the feeling of being an independent but there are branches in most big UK cities. While this is actually hidden above Urban Outfitters on the Corner of New Street and Corporation Street the entrance is actually round the next corner up Cannon Street. Great for suits and shirts!

Slaters is a great store with polite and helpful shop assistants who are almost a throw back to days gone by when service was king. The staff call your Sir(and not«mate») and are helpful with measuring and helping you choose the right clothes. Even with the great service, the price of clothes here isn’t necessarily higher and I’ve bought some bargains for casual, smart and formal wear. Slaters is my first choice when I shop for mens clothes.

Slaters is a great outlet store and one that we are lucky to have in Birmingham. I like how they sell everything from smart and casual, whatever shape or size you may be, they have it in stock. Although the interior is well warn out, and the place is crying out for a make over, they still have the latest and newest fashions and accessories. If I need a decent trendy pair of shoes, I always check here first. My last pair where Italian and they lasted a good couple of years, at an affordable price. The store attendants are very helpful and know a thing or two about tailoring. The shirts that you can buy here are sometimes unique, IE, they have nice embroidery, which not many establishments sell these days. Overall a good store, try and use the lift in front of you when you walk in as opposed to the lengthy staircase.

Slaters used to be the place to go for the aspiring young Mod. Back in the late nineties and early noughties, they stocked Fred Perry gear a lot cheaper than anyone else, as well bits of Lambretta, Ben Sherman, Kangol(like I say, this was the 1990s) and hip-looking Italian sportsgear. Whenever I somehow had the money to buy clothes, this was where I invariably ended up. In the past few years it’s sadly gone downhill although I’m at a loss to say why that is. After a long absence, I ventured in there not so long ago and was dismayed to find the place feeling a little tired. There are still some okay clothes and the shoes have always been pretty good but it’s certainly nowhere that anyone hoping to cut a sharp figure should be getting their clobber from — unless the look you’re going for is ‘middle-aged golfer’. Shame really.
