Simply stunning experience at Simpsons! The food was exquisite and in the private dining room We had our very own waiting staff to tend to our every need. The magnificent chef explained every course to us. Between the traditional courses, small pre courses are served. The portions are perfect, small yet incredibly satisfying and you certainly leave feeling well catered for. The building is wonderful and the ambience created is first class. Easy to see why this place gained a Michelin star and why it is a Birmingham favourite amongst foodie elites!

What a fantastic experience. My mum has difficulty walking and needs help with stairs and step slopes. I mentioned this when making the booking and the staff had gone to the trouble of installing a small ramp into the dining area so she wouldn’t struggle. The food was perfectly cooked, perfectly timed between courses, and for £65 a head for the 5 course tasting menu(in my opinion, more than enough food) we couldn’t have asked for a better treat. Highly recommended.

One of Birmingham’s best restaurants. The gingerbread soufflé is one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten. Lovely setting, attentive service — wish I could go every month!

Went here yesterday for the first time, WOW! Every course was exceptional, and left you wanting more. Yes it is expensive, but in my optinion it was worth it for a special occasion. The service was also excellent, very attentive without being too ‘in your face’. Will definately be going back when we find a suitable occasion!

I have been going to Simpsons for a really long time and what never ceases to amaze me is that every time is as good as the first time. The food here is incredible and can only be rivaled by the amazing service. One of the other things I like is that staff turnover is very low, so you can often be served by someone you have had previously. The chocolate bomb with the hot fruit sauce is probably one of the nicest sweets I have ever had.

Simpsons Restaurant was created by Michelin chef-patron, restaurateur and mentor to many Birmingham chefs, Andreas Antona. He first achieved his Michelin status in his ‘Simply Simpsons’ Restaurant, located in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. I knew this place was opulent and it felt good to be dining here. I had the slow cooked cheek, bavette à la plancha, Swiss chard, beetroot, grilled onions, red wine at £24.95. For someone to achieve this with no formal training reflects a deep rooted talent. The whole plate was mesmerising and it tasted so perfect and clean, the opposite of a greasy spoon breakfast. I was a little disappointed with the lack of choice on the desert menu, but in defence I do have a sweet tooth. In the end I choose Valrahona Macae and Praline Delicice. Mandarin, lemon thyme sorbet at £10.50. I enjoyed its delicacy. If you have some cash and want to impress someone then take them here.

I try and visit Birmingham’s finest at least once or twice a year. Simpson’s is the most established of this set, although I think of it as being out of town, situated as it is just a little bit beyond 5Ways into leafy Edgbaston. There is a car park on site outside although driving into it is one of the scariest driving moments I have had; I drive up the hill, onto the drive and to find the cars parked tightly on a curve. I try and find a space amongst whilst a. not marking my car and b. not hitting any number of the very expensive cars parked here on a week day lunchtime. You can imagine the food in a Michelin star restaurant and of course that’s subjective but almost always will get 4 stars from me anyway. For a closet vegetarian(not a huge meat eater) I don’t always get on with most Michelins because of their French influence and therefore little or no vegetarian menu. So I often end up having fish as a starter and main course as I did here, as wonderful as it was. The other issue is the desserts tend to be chocolate or fruit based neither of which I am a fan of either but I they bought out a sorbet/ice cream concoction for me. The food as you would expect is perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth goodness. However, to me that’s about 60% of the experience, the rest is the service. From the minute I walked in, I a guided to the sofa and offered a drink and then bought into the lounge to await my dining partner. After choosing from the menu, we are effortlessly taken to our table with a view and our knowledgeable and friendly waiter brings our starters promptly. The bill goes over the £100 mark for two but even if it’s not your thing, I feel it it’s worth doing at least once.

We visited Simpsons on our wedding anniversary on a Tuesday evening(booked 3 weeks in advance, the polite gentleman on the phone said they were nearly fully booked already). Arrived 20 minutes before we were due to dine at 19:40(after driving round the restaurant 3 times to try and find a car park space). On arrival we were greeted by a pleasant gentleman who placed us at the bar area, which was a very nice place to be. After a 10 minute wait we were taken to our table which was located in the main part of the restaurant near the kitchen. As soon as we sat down we were advised that as it was our first time at the restaurant we should consider the tasting menu, so the tasting menu it was to be at £70pp(it didn’t take my wife and I long to be convinced by all those wonderful sounding dishes), we also went for the accompanying wine selection at an extra £45 pp, we thought this was quite reasonable as the cheapest bottle of wine on the menu was £30(and believe me I looked through the book, yes book! If they haven’t got the wine you want in their book then it doesn’t exist!) The food arrived 1 by 1, I’m including only a fraction of the courses in this review as there were so many. We had foie gras ravioli, seared tuna rolled in wild sesame, sweetbreads, the softest beef, perfectly seared scallops, goats cheese, two desserts, coffee and petit fours. Each of these courses was accompanied with various purees, compotes, & tempura. One of the highlights were shavings of very tasty goats cheese that lay around the plate, what turned out to be a foam of goats cheese on the middle was accompanied with beetroot crisps on top, this was then accompanied by a beetroot sorbet, which was unusual but it worked well(even though I’m not a huge fan of beetroot). My favourite was the seared scallops with pureed cauliflower, tempura cauliflower and a raw slither of fresh cauliflower, it was a cauliflower overdose that suited me perfectly! When the waiter delivered the dishes he explained how each dish was made and what the ingredients represented in regards to our taste buds, plus. the wine waiter also explained how each glass of wine we had (different glass for nearly every dish) was specifically chosen to that specific dish to make our taste buds go wild with flavour! and he was right, the flavours of the dishes combined with the wine was exquisite, and it was all presented beautifully! The staff were friendly, polite, and experts in their field without been pretentious, even the water waiter was efficient. The only down side of having all those various waiters in such a medium sized restaurant is that you’re never left on your own for more than 5 minutes(which is not a bad thing, it’s just a little annoying). Everything was perfect, the Michelin stars are clearly visible here! And although not the cheapest establishment to dine in, it was worth the money! The décor was smart & classy and you never felt uncomfortable. Highly recommended for those special occasions or if you fancy a special treat! The bill came to about £240 + 12% service charge

I’ve visited Simpsons a total of 4 times, 3 times in the evening a la carte and once on a Saturday for the set lunch menu. Every time we’ve visited, the service has been second to none. The food outstanding and even when I have had an issue(very tough and overcooked belly pork on the set lunch menu) the service was amazing as they were happy to rectify the problem so seamlessly. I would recommend this place over and over again — whether for a romantic date or with work colleagues. Wine list provides good choice, waiters always happy to assist and very knowledgeable, and do make sure you don’t miss out on the cheese board. Absolutely heavenly place.

Quite simply put Simpson’s is without doubt the finest overall dining experience in Birmingham. The Food, Service, beverage offering and surroundings are of the highest standard. The building is listed and provides the perfect backdrop to a fine dining meal with a conservatory areawhere diners can view the chefs working in the spotless kitchen. On warm days guests can eat in the garden which is beautiful and take coffee in either of the summer houses in peace and tranquility. The menu is seasonal and although expensive(starters £7−13 Mains £17−25 Puds £10) still offers great value for money as it is some of the finest food I have eaten(including 3* restaurants). Lunchtime set menu is brilliant value at £30 for 3 courses. Service is highly efficient but not to starchy. All in all Simpsons is about as close to a complete dining experience as you will get outside of London.
