Beautiful contemporary Indian Cuisine in the heart of Birmingham.
Very attentive service, we were given a table with undue delay and the menu was rather awesome. A selection of special dishes available.
Cobra beer on draught, range of bottled beers, wines and spirits. Elegant décor with some ornate artwork on the walls and ancient Indian statues. Sanskrit has pulled together dishes from all regions of India into one amazing menu.
We were offered a basket of popodoms, and me being in rather cheeky and jovial spirit, said ‘Yes, if their on the house’…and to my pleasant surprise the waiter appeared with a basket of delicious popodoms with dips and diced onions — Free!
We ordered three dishes and the food was divine. A the flavours were there — delicious melt in the mouth lamb (Rajasthani Laal Mass), tender chicken (Kadai Murgh) and the biggest and juiciest King prawns i have tasted in a long time (Jinga Masaledar). The garlic naan was exceptional and every mouthful was pleasurable.

Sanskrit was my discovery on the Stratford Road (by that I mean I came across it accidentally and booked my self & other half in for a meal — rather than no-​one else had ever seen it before).
The staff were lovely — really welcoming and helpful and polite. The food was either super-​amazing or a bit randomly bland, which was a bit odd. I fared best with my Narial Ka Gosht — slightly more complex and fragrant than a lot of traditional balti mains. My other half had a chicken tandoori, which was OK, but nothing to write home about– which is a shame as we both absolutely love tandoori.
They do a really good value for money set menu, which I would recommend, which blends a mixture o traditional and modern cuisine, showing off all the variety of the Indian sub continent.
I would recommend Sanskrit, but speak to the waiters about what they would recommend, as some of the dishes are far better than others. And also, they’re really helpful and friendly :)

Most Indian restaurants offer cuisine from a certain part of India. In fact many are called Indian restaurants when they are in fact Pakistani or Bangladeshi!
Sanskrit Restaurant has uniquely captured traditional dishes from the four corners of India with a modern flavour. They have an extensive range of vegetarian and non-​vegetarian dishes that are inspired by the journey Indian immigrants have taken to get to Britain. For example, the crispy bhajia and mogo chips are a perfect marriage of Kenyan and Indian cuisine… yum!
Despite the elegant surroundings, the prices are very modest. The service is traditionally Indian with humble waiting staff that are impressively polite. It’s a shame the restaurant is as small as it is. It has a lot more potential.
I think Sanskrit Restaurant is a gem that is yet to be discovered by the rest of the city. The cuisine is delectable, the service impeccable and ambience is perfect for fine dining.

Being curry lovers, we’ve been to hundreds of Indian restaurants in our lifetime but Sanskrit has developed into a second home for us. We keep trying new ones and no matter how good they are we always leave slightly disapointed saying ‘good, but not quite Sanskrit’. If you find yourself returning there for the 40^th time you’ll never get bored of the menu as there are always new specials to try (usually 3 starters & 3 mains). If you still can’t decide just describe the type of curry you enjoy and they’ll be happy to create an authentic dish to your liking. The level of service is also spot on, never imposing or interupting, trying to fill your glass up everytime you take a sip (pet hate) but always there when they’re needed. Sanskrit is an overall winner in all departments. Our total bill for the two of us having starters, mains, rice, naan and a bottle of wine usually comes to £40-£43, great value! We’ll be there again this Saturday.

Great new Indian restaurant, Great prices and very good service. Will definitely revisit soon. I would recommend everyone to visit.

I visited this restaurant with my wife on the way home from work. I was greeted with a pleasent young waitress. I thought the service was very good at the restaurant and the prices are well worth it, most importantly I thoroughly enjoyed the food from the Mixed Grill Starters to the Butter Chicken Main with a lovely indian desert. I was quite surpised how tasty the cocktail was that my wife ordered, didnt expect that from a Indian restaurant. Definetly be visiting Sanskrits again. Thank you guys.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening night of this great new restaurant. Super friendly staff and a chef that can really cook.
I don’t normally eat Indian food but it was great, Seatol and his beauiful wife made us and all the diners and guests very welcome, we reluctantly left 4 hours after arriving. What a great night… TRY THIS PLACE!
