Poplar Road Health Centre should probably be called Popular Road Health Centre due to the amount of people it as on its books. As ever, there is a positive and a negative aspect to this: the positive being that they must be doing something right if its that popular and the negative being long waiting times. As well as a standard GP practice, they also offer private clinics and other services such as a brilliant breastfeeding support group on a Friday morning, where you can go for advice and help. As far as I’m aware, you don’t have to be registered with the surgery to access this service, which is great.

When I moved to Kings Heath I carried on using Karis Medical Centre in Ladywood. I got tired of the journey time it took for me to see a GP. I decided to find somewhere a little closer to home and since Polar Road Health Centre was local and opposite my pharmacist I went along to sign up to their services. I had to wait for 2 weeks to be seen for my initial consultation by a GP, I was also asked to provide specimens for the laboratory to analyse. I had no issues with this, I just made sure I used the alcohol hand sanitiser after I had finished. When I finally saw a GP I felt like the entire process was rushed and hurried. I was a little frustrated but decided to let it go and see if the service improved on my next visit. Every time I have been back since, I’ve had to wait on average half an hour to be seen. One time I was five minutes late and had to rebook as the Doctor refused to see me. I have never seen the same GP twice at this practice, it is always someone different. My whole experience here has been a negative and impersonal one. I feel like I’m stuck with this practice and I am often reluctant to go to see the GP here due to this reasoning. Very disappointing.
