I used to be a regular here when I worked in town and was always telling my colleagues about ‘this great cheap pasta place which gives you massive portions ‘. Since returning from university I was stuck for what to eat in town and suddenly my mind flashed back to Polo’s! I explained to the woman behind the counter that I used to be a regular back in the day and I was excited to be back. Her and the man serving seemed to be truly touched by this. I was surprised because I’d expect this place to have a really loyal fan base. You can get a big plastic tray of all different kinds of pasta(mix more than one type if you like) then add what you like out of the deli and sauce section. I usually order sweet chilli chicken penne covered in grated cheese with a side salad(for those extra hungry times). They have other lunchy type things but the pasta is so good I’d feel guilty ordering a panini.

Mama-mia I sure do love the pasta from this place! I’ve been going here for years as the take away choices are not only delicious, but also healthy in comparison to your standard fast food. When you walk in, there is a large fridge full of different pasta options; everything from meatballs to my personal favourite, Cajun chicken. You can even have half and half and I tend to go for the vegetable pasta as the ingredients are really chunky and I’m sure that goes towards one of my 5 a day! You can choose to have it warmed up with melted cheese and then add a side salad to it which is delicious. My only note would be that when they ask you what salad you want(such as olives, feta cheese, peppers etc) be careful as the more luxury items cost more. I didn’t know this and ended up spending another £3 just on salad but it was tasty.

Polo café bar is situated in the very busy part of our city centre, right opposite New Street Station and a stones throw from New Street shops. At Polo, you can get pastas, paninis, salads, baguettes etc. Everything is authentically Italian and you will not be dispointed. The range of fillings for the baguettes and paninis is imense and as everything is preapred and cooked in the store on that day you can mix and match anyhting you want to create the perfect meal. The staff are so friendly and the shop very reminiscent of Italy with the pictures on the wall and the rustic feel to the décor. Some people may say this place is pricey but averaging £4 for a panini AND salad or pasta and salad its worth it.
