About two years ago, I renewed my contract and with it I got a phone upgrade. As I’d always had Sony Ericsson handsets before, I thought I’d upgrade to the big touch screen Android system-operating Experia X10. It was a magic phone for email, internet and gaming, The only problem was that I found that all the handsets had the universal problem of the volume not being loud enough, so if you were anywhere apart from a silent room, you couldn’t hear the person on the other end. So I went to Phone Gene to see if i could get a good price for it Despite it being a few weeks old and although I had the box and all the leads, headphones and other peripherals, I wasn’t given what I considered to be agood price. The problem, said the shop worker, was that not many people use the T-Mobile network, so if the shop bought the ‘phone from me the person who bought it from the shop would have to pay to get it unlocked. We came up with a solution though: I paid £30 to get the phone unlocked and then swapped my phone with my friend’s son’s phone. Not ideal, but through the shop worker’s service, we came to a solution of benefit to us all. They got some money, I got a phone that I can actually converse with, and young Bailey got a good phone to fill his time with.

Young children are fascinated by technology, and probably because they see us playing with them all the time. The iPhone is particularly attractive to young ‘uns because of the tactile way in which you engage with it. A swoop of the finger and things happen. Magic. The downside of this is that an expensive iPhone in the hands of a toddler is a recipe for disaster, as I found to my cost when my young son cracked the screen of my old iPhone. I swallowed my intense distaste for the Church of Apple and all the nonsense that goes with it and bowed down at the feet of one of their Genuises. He told me my iPhone 3G was a Vintage product. I didn’t hit him. Then he quoted me £80-£120 for a replacement screen, at which point I left the store. Phone Genie did if for me for £35. I have a new iPhone now. I’ve had it for 6 months. I wonder when that will become Vintage?

After I my Iphone screen could no longer stand my abuse and cracked, I found myself in a potentially very costly position if I wanted to return it to its former glory. After visiting the Apple shop for hope of some dependable service at a reasonable price, I found that the repair would cost me £150. ‘What!?’ I thought to myself, and swiftly adjourned the consultation taking my phone to be repaired elsewhere. I never thought I’d end up going to Phone Genie, however this unfortunate event lead to my visit. 30 quid for it to be repaired, it sounded too good to be true, perhaps it was a botch job but my beloved phone shows no signs of it yet. That was a sum of money that I was willing to depart with after a quote of £150 pounds, however it did make me question how much the reparation would have costed if I had done it myself. My phone’s repaired and it cost 30 quid all thanks to Phone Genie — I recommend them.

Phone Genie is a bit of a one stop shop for electrical problems, with phone issues being sorted out alongside pc and lap top repairs. I’m normally a little bit sceptical about these places as I have had some bad experiences in the past with phones going in to be repaired and coming out in an even worse state than beforehand. However, Phone Genie has gone someway to restoring my faith in these kinds of establishments with a good level of service. There’s not an awful lot more to add other than to say they will give any phone a go and seem to be adept at handling most problems. Decent prices as well so you needn’t worry too much about the pennies, overall a good business delivering a good service to the good people of Kings Heath.
