Updating the review since the lady I spoke to rectified the issue Worst management ever Placed an order to be delivered to my sister in Birmingham. Credit card went through and when I called 15 minutes before delivery time to check he said he cannot process the order since it was not locally placed Simply pathetic

One of the best overall meals — best Indian — I have had in the UK! From beginning to end an incredible experience. The food was absolutely lovely. All eight of us in our party had maxing currys. I had the mixed balti(something you just can’t get in the U.S.). We started with onion bajis and drinks. I had a Cobra Indian beer which was equivalent to two beers. The naans were perfect and the balti was the best I have had. The best part of the meal was the staff and all the extras that they continued to bring to the table. First there was fruit salad and then came the ice cream. Next was the chocolate cake they dropped on the ice cream. Coffee and candies were next and then the shot of our choice! Everyone that served us was amazing and they took care of us all the way out to the cab. Please visit this restaurant if anywhere near Sheldon in Birmingham. It is very reasonable, the food is wonderful and the staff are amazing!

Oh, Jilabi! We used to be such good, good friends… «Jewel in the crown» is an over-used cliché but this place really is it. It started as an Indian restaurant with the best balti Birmingham has to offer. Now unfortunately it’s transformed into a sprawling bustle of a restaurant, with loud and cheerful clientele squashed into every nook and cranny. Staff are fantastic and can’t be more welcoming. Cheerful and chatty, they flit elegantly between the cramped rows of clothed tables delivering your sizzling food and sides. The success of the restaurant has been phenomenal, and the food is always superb, but if you’re looking for somewhere that’s classy and quiet, this place definitely isn’t it. Since they have opened they have occupied the upstairs of their restaurant, then the adjacent shop’s upstairs room, then the ground floor of that shop… My brother and I also suffer from what we affectionately call«The Jilabis» the morning after a meal here. Indian food is never good for you, is it? There’s plenty of different things to try on the menu and I recommend you go with an empty stomach and a welcoming palate. Check the website, facebook feeds, etc for news of their special events; they often do buffets and taster evenings, and run competitions too. This place isn’t cheap, either. It used to be, but the price has crept up in line with the amount of floor space this place now occupies. Regardless it is still good value for money, but if you’re dining on a budget, try some of the others in the vicinity(Titash is a few hundred yards away, in the direction of Coventry). Do: get a taxi — the beer is amazing, as is the free liqueur at the end of the meal Don’t: go if you’re not hungry!

I moved away from Birmingham about 8 years ago but whenever I return to visit family and friends we tend to end up in a curry house. This evening I took some work colleagues to the Jilabi after a late night of working. One of my party is very particular with his food and the service he expects, often causing much embarrassment whenever we go to a new restaurant for the first time. Tonight however we had no such problems. The food was exquisite and the service was as informal and friendly as I’ve come to expect from there. If you are looking for a curry house in Sheldon, look no further :)

I wasted an excessive amount of Sundays eating the typical Sunday roast for too long. That was until I discovered the buffet deal at Jilabi. On a Sunday it is £7.95 for a three course buffet. I couldn’t believe it, I exercised my critical state of thinking upon entering, as I did not think that a deal so cheap could taste so nice. The food was delicious, I usually carry out the same mundane attempt of ordering at an Indian restaurant, one local curry house even know the usual Chicken Balti I order. Here I had the opportunity to mix numerous tastes and try several dishes. The venue is relatively small, but it is lay out so everyone has sufficient space and they’re are many members of staff on hand to assist you and see you in and out. I have a lot of respect for the restaurant, the staff seem genuine and the food makes my stomach rumble as I type this up. In fact I am already contemplating my plans for this Sunday evening.

Jilabi on the Coventry Road is one of my parents’ favourite curry houses so we visit a fair bit. It really is the staff that make this place. Often you wonder what their wage bill must be like as they seem to employ about the same number of waiters as patrons! This means you get the very best service and often an extremely entertaining evening. It is often busy and the waiters add to the lively atmosphere. On Sundays and Mondays they have a great Indian buffet with a huge choice of starter, main and dessert dishes for £7.95. My only criticism concerns their vegetarian dishes, I ordered a tarka dal and it was just ok. My Dad also seems a bit miffed with their beer. They stock a full bar but the tap Carlsberg larger isn’t always on(although they do have bottled cobra) and there is no bitter. However, we’ll probably be back there next week as we love it so much.
