I used this pool last week and loved it! It’s so clean, and has a great pool. Plenty of changing facilities and showers, and enough space in the pool even though it was busy. I’m not a member, but you only pay £4 to use it which is good value. Birmingham needs and is crying out for more pools of high quality such as this in Harbourne. I’ll be going back, great service with nice facilities. Perfect.

I visited this facility to go swimming when it first opened. Compared to the old facility its very good improvement, The pool is six lanes so in the evening has lots of lane swimming, sometimes adults only, the centre opens very early at 6am, and from what i’m told by 6:30 its generally full of lane swimmers, so ideal for lane swimmers. If you live in the area its a very good facility, there are no steam and sauna facilities which is something they should of thought of since the centre in Wolverhampton which is run by Places for People has that. I have never used the gym or any other facilities but from what I heard the gym and classes get busy so its obviously very popular, the centre is open quite late until 10pm I think and opens early, but in general its only a small facility so no sports hall, café etc. But Birmingham are building new facilities very soon such as the rebuild of Northfield and one in Ladywood and the rebuild of Stechford. If you like fitness classes and if its true that they get full up quite easily you might be better off going to Cocks Moor Woods Leisure Centre or Fox Hollies as their studios and timetable is a lot better and can accommodate more people in their studio. Just to be aware this place is managed by Places For People(Formally DC Leisure) so if you have a card with Birmingham Community Leisure Trust(Serco) you cannot use your membership here, maybe one day they will merge who knows? One thing to be aware before coming here is the car park is small so if your travelling far you might not get parking space. You do get 4 stars for being a good facility though inside.

Sweat or swim, this is a crackin local gym n pool combo. There are two pools on the ground floor, one for families, another for everyone else, however there’s no steam room or sauna. The gym and changing rooms are first floor, take a £1 coin for the lockers(returned at the end of your session). The main gym area has around 15 treadmills, 6 cross trainers, 12 bikes and a few rowing machines. There’s a ample resistance equipment, however the free weights area is small, and if you’re used to a big brand chain gym(Virgin, LA Fitness etc.) you might find a few things lacking(no assisted pull-up deck, no free weight squat frame…). There’s a separate area with TRX, kettle bells, punchbags and spin bikes. The best bit about this place is the price, I took up one of their special offers, £85 for a three month membership, contracts roll on a monthly basis with no need to make a 12 month commitment. Oh, parking is limited, to around 30 spaces. So whilst it lacks some of the frills found in bigger gyms this place offers great value for money, it’s very modern, clean, has friendly staff, and attracts a diverse clientele(don’t worry, it’s not like the Worlds Strongest Man contest in there).

I’ve been using this pool for a number of years, all the way back to when I first moved to Harborne in the late 1990s. Back then, Harborne pool was a fairly run down(but nevertheless charming) Victorian pool — with a high glass ceiling and changing rooms that lined the pool. I really used to enjoy swimming there — it was very peaceful. This recently opened new centre on the site of the old pool is also very good. It is BRANDNEW, and you can tell. The facilities are excellent and the pool is first class. They have also added a gym on the 2nd floor which makes the whole building look very impressive when you drive past. I’ve not used the gym, but judging by how busy the exercise bikes and running machines are in the wide window that overlooks the road, the gym is very popular also.
