If it wasn’t for Copyright. They should name this place Moe’s Tavern. It is dark, dingy, dated and dull. The atmosphere as you walk in is gloomy and disheartening. It is busy, however I think the only reason for that is the beer is cheap… a cheap round. There are large screens for sport. Didn’t want to risk trying the food. I wouldn’t go back unless it was absolutely necessary.

This place is definitely a men’s only joint — lol. Typical Indian social place, with cheap beer and cheap food. They have a few large screens, and I’d assume this place would be rocking when India play Pakistan in cricket. Worth checking this place on a match night for a few pints, any other night and it would just seem dark and dingy.

Personally I won’t be going here again. Inside, the décor was dull, boring and felt quite dirty. It was packed so we couldn’t get a seat, not that the chairs looked very comfortable. The service was poor. As we weren’t regulars we were overlooked by the bar staff as they continued to serve people they clearly recognised even though we had been standing there before them. After our first drink we decided to make a sharp exit for the door. Although it was busy, the atmosphere was frosty towards new customers and I won’t be returning anytime soon.

I’m not really a fan of this pub unfortunately. On a busy road and generally quite over crowded, the atmosphere is a little dull and unwelcoming if you are not a regular at the pub. It’s such a shame because the pub exterior has lots of character and to be fair the staff who work behind the bar are alright. It’s also a pretty large pub and you can get food there. I only visited once and I haven’t been back but that’s because like I said before; it’s not really my cup of tea. The regulars seem to love it and I’m sure it’s a real community pub so that’s a positive. The pub also disappointed me because some of the facilities are just not up to par. Like the cleanliness of the toilets and parts of the pub itself. They could do with a refurbishment!

Hence the name you do tend to see a lot of Asians visit this pub. It is a popular pub as I have gathered and it really is a decent place to take your friends out for a pint. There is parking at the pub but if there are no spaces available, you will probably need to park on the side streets. There is a side street quite literally next to the pub. Even if you come here via the bus, there is a bus stop right outside the pub. The Gateway to India pub is easy to find and you cannot miss it. The atmosphere generated by the regulars and those who come here is very good. This pub does get jam packed whenever live sports are shown. I haven’t tasted the food here but I will next time I come here. My friends do rate this pub highly although I have to admit the toilets could do with a clean and be improved. But apart from that, I can’t fault this pub in any way and hopefully I will be back here soon.
