Today’s experience of Costa based close to my offices sums up why I generally try to avoid chain coffee bars like the plague. Waiting to give your order is excrutiatingly painful with there seeming to be more than an adequate amount of staff but wait times of up to ten minutes for a simple coffee and toatsed teacake, the latter of which came to me burnt as the serving staff had ignored the beep of the flat bed toaster to remove it. Had this not been a mid morning mercy run for caffeine I would have returned it but I’d already waited so long for it, no choice but to bring it back and scrape. Final straw for me had to be getting back with a lukewarm coffee, big no no, has to be piping hot. Sorry Costa I won’t be visiting again. My advice for Brindley Place visitors, go to EAT, friendly staff, the atmosphere of an indie with the finished polish of a chain. The coffee’s always hot too.

A few years ago you didn’t have the choice of independent coffee shops in Birmingham that you do now and so this was my favourite spot to go to for a coffee and a cake. This is a particularly nice Costa because of the location in Brindley Place and the very cool glass building. It’s lovely to go to in the summer and sit outside at one of the tables or get a take away drink and sit on the grass. In terms of drinks and food it’s just the same as all the other Costas of course. I don’t mind Costa’s coffee personally and I like the seasonal drinks such as the very yummy sticky toffee latte. This Costa stands out from the rest because of its location. It’s nice and clean with lots of tables available and the staff are polite and efficient.

Lady was rude and she claimed they don’t make iced mocha? Went to Nero right next to them and got great service and a great iced mocha.

The purpose built Costa(made to look like a coffee bean from above) is my usual. The staff are lovely & they make some fab coffee. The snacks are really nice and not too expensive. They always seem to be open(even @6.30am!) and it’s well worth a visit next time you’re passing. 4⁄5
