Thanks to Ronseal, «It does exactly what it says on the tin» has found its way into common usage. It’s also useless as a description for Coffee and Cream. This is because it’s essentially a chippy. Established in 1982, this is a one-stop, post-pub snack shop that is hard to beat. I had a friend who would crawl over broken glass for food here. Serving portions of veggie pakora, chicken tikka and onion bahjis, Coffee and Cream vaguely comes over as a deli if Gazza’s mate ran one. A popular haunt for students, revellers and on-the-way-home business people, the treats on offer here far outclass typical post-pub nosh. If you are cooking the dinner tonight, treat your significant other to a ‘home-made’ spicey starter courtesy of coffee and cream and call it your own. I won’t tell if you don’t.

Last night I made the mistake of going in there while waiting for my taxi, bought a ‘cheese and onion pasty’ unfortunately I only realised how terrible it was once in the taxi! Once bitten into the filling tasted like rancid dog shit and wafted the most rancid air in the taxi and I didn’t dare eat anymore. I looked at it once in the light and the filling was completely gone off, I couldn’t believe I’d been sold something like that so be wary. Stick to chips if you have to go in there at all. I don’t really want to give any stars after what I tasted and smelt and saw… Another occasion I wanted to buy bottled water there, ordered two big bottles only to notice they were filled to different levels and i tried a cap, which was already loose. so they were actually trying to sell bottles filled up with tap water. so didn’t buy that. definitely don’t want to set foot in there again.

Pretty solid choice when it comes to freshly made sandwiches in the vicinity of Aston uni. When I worked in the area, I’d go there most days. Other than sandwiches, they also offer a selection of samosas, spring rolls and other sundries. Fast service and pretty decent value for money. It’s quite popular with the local student crowd, but you aren’t normally kept waiting long for your food. The food itself is fairly unremarkable, but at that price you can hardly complain.

Located on Aston street, there are two parts to this place, the takeaway and the side that mostly sells pastas/sandwiches/baguettes. In a previous review I have warned people it is best to stay away from the takeaway! The baguettes and pastas in the other side however are quite nice and fairly priced. With most places around Aston university, you should go quickly because during busy times the good food tends to disappear quickly.
