Charlie Hall

Not as soul destroying as other pubs in Erdington by also not the most cheery of places. Typical Wetherspoon fare.

Charlie Hall was born in Ward End, Birmingham in 1899 He was actor who appeared in over 45 Laurel and Hardy films. Over 101 years later in May 2000 this pub opened with his name above the door.
This is a bit of a rough and ready Wetherspoons which I’ve drunk on and off for nearly 15 years!
Food is pretty swift and the staff are hardworking and mostly polite. Unless you are a naughty local.
The locals all drink down the front of the bar or smoke out of the back. Leaving the lounge dining area at the back pretty empty.
Burger and chips should really be named Burger and five Chips but you don’t go to wetherspoons on the hunt for huge amounts food.

Well what can I say about this place, it’s the only pub I would visit on the high-​street that’s for sure, so I am sure that gives you an indication that «not all is bad»
This place does not tolerate any bad behaviour so if you are pissing about they will kick you out. The place in cheap and cheerful as you would expect from a weatherspoons. The place could do with a lil spring clean I feel but apart from that not bad place for a few cheeky ones.

This pub is the best of a bad bunch on the High St, but they can’t choose where they are.
The staff seem to know their regulars but are welcoming to strangers, so you don’t get the sense that this pub «belongs» to any group in particular.
Although some of the customers may appear «earthy», there does seem to be a respect for the place in general.
Food is always decent, and the staff seem to know their real ales from their fizzy lagers.
It’s my local and I probably go there twice a month. If I’m there in the morning for a breakfast, I make a point of sitting near the front of the pub. This is within hearing range of one character who is there every day. He cannot complete a sentence without the «f» word, and finishes every other sentence with a laugh that Sid James would approve of. It’s free entertainment.
The other pubs on the High St are distinctly unappealing!

This place is a bit grubby inside and needs redecorating. The food is great though and waiting times are not very long. The food is great value and well worth the money. The staff are friendly as well so its worth a visit if you dont mind the apperance of the place.
