Plenty of food choices available at this good quality all you can eat Chinese buffet. The drinks are expensive, but this isn’t surprising. Recommended.

Well, you have to admire the name. It simultaneously references the world’s most sophisticated dining experience — school-like queuing with a plate — and either a traffic interchange or an ocean retreat that is Swiss Family-sweet or Crusoe-sour, depending on outlook. Of course, in few scenarios would yuk sung lettuce leafs carry the qualities of palm tree paradise; the kind you’d see in a Lilt ad. So chances are, it’s that traffic interchange. For all the lack of sand, Buffet Isand is praised by many as the pinnacle of Chinese dining, mainly precisely because of the buffet component: paying a not-super-cheap flat rate to get in and then all but literally filling your boots(and I’ve honestly seen people bringing in their own empty ice cream tubs to take home what they can’t manage after three trips up to the vats). Personally, I think it’s a shame that this type of food is becoming increasingly synonymous with an ‘all you can eat’ approach. Perhaps it would seem less regrettable if the food was outstanding, but while decent, you cannot escape a canteen experience(and sometimes mentality). And yet, the restaurant is not claiming to be anything else: This is about simple yet tasty Chinese dishes in potentially ridiculously large quantities for a fixed price. If you expect sea bass Szechuan style, you didn’t even read the large print. It’s a great alternative to the typical fast food experience, and perhaps not the worst idea for a gathering of colleagues. But be warned, take a date and there won’t be date number two.

Not the cheapest Chinese buffet yet it is well worth it. For £12.95 you can take on the challenge of eating as much as possible. It is a big– spacious restaurant, with a mixture of different starters and courses. I always enjoy the chicken and beef curries and although it’s not to my taste — many friends enjoy the crispy duck on hand. I always find myself fighting the temptation to rush through the main courses and visit the chocolate fountain. I usually resist the urge and revert back to my seat with some kind of curry, after digesting some of my food I rush back up to grab the strawberries and marshmallows with the chocolate fountain, I then grab the unlimited ice cream and regret that I ate so much before dessert as I begin to run out of steam. I always enjoy Buffet Island though I find regular visits can make it boring and can take the significance of the different tastes away.

I find £15 a little a steep i must admit, the foods okay nothing more. To me it seems all Chinese buffets import from the same supplier as the food has no variation and seems processed a lot of the time. I’d much rather go to a nice Chinese restaurant and have a set menu where i have the choice of 5 or 6 nice freshly prepared dishes rather than get blotted out on synthetic chicken.

went to the new one in great barr for a birthday. Food was ok but expensive £15 per head. There are lots of chinese where you dont pay that much for a meal. You can eat as much as you like which is how they con you after all you can only eat what you can eat and I didnt eat £15 worth. Wooden flooring no soft furnishings make it very noisy. could do with some plants to screen tables off was like a big canteen. If 10 people go for a birthday the birthday person eats free another con as they wouldnt allow us to claim because the birthday person didnt have birth certificate with them !!! We had taken balloons for the table had given cards and presents but they said anyone could claim it was a birthday. So we wont be going ever again(didnt enjoy very much any way) CONCONCON

Buffet Island is a set price, all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant in Birmingham. It’s very easy to find, you can see it from about a mile down the road. The first time I went to this place, I thought it was brilliant. Set price, you can eat what you want, and you serve yourself so you can just go up for anything that takes your fancy. You can overeat like a pig until you feel sick. You have to pay extra for your drinks, mind. The staff are helpful though you don’t need to deal with them too much, this being a buffet place. The food’s pretty good, though after the second or third trip, the magic of the place wears off. That said, I haven’t been in a while, and writing this makes me want to go again.

This is exactly what it says it is — nothing more and nothing less. You go and pay a set price(varies depending on time and day) and eat as much as you like in a buffet style. Not my normal kind of thing — I tend to shy away from these places as the food they offer up is usually really poor. Went with a group for someone’s birthday and I have to say it was ok. The location is appalling — in the middle of an industrial district really, just off a main carriageway — but once inside the décor is not bad. Its one of those places where its kind of as good as the people you are with. The food is passable to good — obviously you have to be selective — but there are english and chinese starters to choose from and many deserts. Min dishes consist mainly of either rice or noodle dishes, the beef in black bean sauce with green peppers was yummy. I can also recommend the barbecue ribs. The piece de resistance is a large chocolate fountain with a choice of fruits and marshmallows etc to dip in. Kids love it!!! Once I had overcome the urge to just chuck everything and anything onto one plate — and thought about what I was putting together I quite enjoyed myself. Its admittedly more about quantity than quality to most of the customers — who without being rude were generally just piling everything they could into their mouths. Found this hard to rate as it is by no means the best restaurant you will ever go to — however it is excellent for the ‘genre’.

A nice Chinese restaurant but certainly not the best, but then the price reflects that. The staff are helpful, and the place is easy to find and nicely decorated, and also clean. The food choice is very varied and would suit most customers, vegetarians, children etc. And suprisingly so, for a Chinese restaurant it has a very good choice of deserts with a huge chocolate fountain, and so children and adults alike will be delighted I’m sure. Beware of not booking though as it tends to get very very busy on weekends and Friday nights.
