I have watched two Grand Parents die at this hospital. I have spent endless hours in here waiting for the people I love to get better. I have been through A&E here after a friend broke his skull on a night out. When I think of this hospital I think of fear, boredom and frustration. The corridors in the hospital are endless and are exactly the same in layout on each floor, which makes things a lot more confusing if you are trying to find something or someone in here. I’ve seen patients waiting on beds in the corridors of this hospital, a very bleak sight into the darker side of the NHS. I would much prefer to go to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Selly Oak, they have superior everything compared to this hospital Heartlands needs to take a step out of the 1970’s and start offering their patients a more modern and effective service.

The Heartlands Hospital, formerly East Birmingham hospital, is where my papa was kept for several weeks this year when he fell ill. The staff there were superb in dealing with a cantankerous old man who has no control of his bowels. The frequency at which new patients come and go is testament to the dedication of the workers there. I can’t fault any of the medical people. The shop is pretty overpriced. Its selection and price is reminiscent of an all-night garage, yet it closes at 8pm(though there are vending machines around the place). The car park is woefully small for the amount of cars coming in, which leads to some very frustrating and creative parking.

My husband had several operations for cancer andthe complications he had that arose several years ago. He was in intensive care for weeks and stayed in the hospital for over two months. We were told he had a very slim chance of survival but thankfully he recovered although he is now registered disabled and his general health is very poor. So we visit this and Solihull hospital at least twice a month and everyone we see are just wonderful. We have always found it to be clean and the staff to be caring and helpful. They have recently had some major developments and although the car park is now smaller the hospital entrance which is in the middle of the car park looks wonderful
