It’s interesting what you get sometimes if you type «massage» into Google. Basically the kind of stuff that you don’t want your boss seeing. And even if you do get results that appear legitimate, it can sometimes be a worry that you’ll end up somewhere that specialises in happy endings rather than happy neck muscles. That’s why I looked for SPORTS massage when my neck was feeling all stiff and knotted and giving me a headache yesterday. Adrian Thomas popped up in the results, he was reasonably close to me and seemed to be the kind of guy I needed.
I filled in the contact form and he replied within a couple of hours which was great! I love it when people are contactable and will email over calling. I especially loved that I was able to make a Saturday appointment on a Friday. The usual story is that I end up waiting weeks, by which time I’m feeling a bit better anyway.
The treatment room is a bit tricky to find. It’s attached to Minerva Works in Digbeth, but don’t go into the main courtyard bit! Unit 8 is just before that on the town side and had some cars parked under shelter when I arrived. The treatment room is off a big gym/​studio and is cosy and clean. I filled out the usual intake forms and we got down to business.
Adrian is lovely-​personable and very professional. He did a postural assessment first and then we talked about which bits of me were hurting the most. He took his time trying to get out all the knots in my mouse arm (the arm that uses the computer mouse, not that looks like a mouse) and shoulders before starting into my neck. That probably deserves a session all to itself but even the time he gave it made it feel looser. I hate feathery stroky massages but also don’t like it if they’re agonising. Luckily, he managed to get it just right. There were moments of discomfort, but it was the good kind.
I haven’t subtracted a star for anything, I’m just going with Unilocal’s explanation of «yay! I’m a fan!» for 4 stars which is pretty darn good. I’m definitely going back for more treatments and at £30 an hour I can do that without too much guilt or penury. He’d better get those thumbs all fired up!
