Went out for a curry with work colleagues the other night and upon someone’s recommendation we came to Adil’s. Upon entering we were immediately seated and brought poppadoms and a selections of dips and pickles, all of which were very tasty. Our drinks order was then taken too. I found the service very efficient. The place was very clean and nicely decorated, which gave it a nice atmosphere and made me want to return again. I ordered Mushroom Puri as a starter, which was absolutely delicious and had a gentle kick to it and for my main I had a Rogan Josh veg balti. It didn’t take too long for everyone’s food to be ready and it was wonderful, perhaps slightly hotter than I expected it to be, but it was very tasty. We had a table nan too and it was huge as you’d expect but very nice! I would definitely recommend this place: great food, great service and lovely atmosphere!

Tuesday night after our regular pub quiz we passed down the Ladypool Road with one thing on our mind, Birmingham’s proudest dish, the Balti! Taking the occasion to sit in and dine, we were lucky to get a seat as the restaurants along this stretch seemed to be closing up for the night. Adils was however happy to host us and we received a great meal and pleasant service which was a lot to ask considering we were such late diners and probably keeping the staff there a little longer than they would’ve liked to have been! The meal was very reasonably priced and the flavours were exquisite, we ordered a large naan and this was no trouble for the kitchen as a bread easily big enough for the three of us was brought out to our delight. Adil’s were exceptional hosts and extremely patient, if they were slightly vexed at our last minute dining they didn’t make us aware of the fact.

The Balti at Adil is very authentic. I’ve never been to India, but I have had the pleasure of being cooked for by an Indian family. The food here has been created with an exotic collection of herbs and spices distinctively blended in the traditional ways of Northern Kashmir. I liked the way the menu has been modified to suit the different tastes of their varying customers. My Girlfriend had the Korma a curry for those who prefer a mild dish. I’m daring so I had the most daring dinner, the Vindaloo. It had curry in it and sweat has pouring out of my sweat, it was incredible. Adil continues to maintain its unique, original style of cooking with a reliability that encourages their customers to return. I know I will.

This used to be a good curry house 4 years ago, but they moved to a new location and had a refub done. those changes meant prices went high, customer service levels dropped and no love with the food! boo! We had a 10% voucher and gave it to the manager during payment, he rejected and said they not accepting them anymore! hmm. I was not happy with that at all. Would have been 4⁄5 stars 4 years ago but things can change for the worse as well.

Adils Tandoori is in a short lane with five other ‘Balti houses’ to compete with. This makes for very reasonably priced good food. When you come here for a balti, there will be other Tandoori dishes on the menu, but go for the baltis. That’s what they do best. A naan bread is an essential accompaniment. My favourite is the Pashwari naan which has sultanas and flaked almonds in it. That is probably best with a Korma, which is fairly mild and creamy. The only thing I have against Adil’s is that it always seems too dark. I like to see what I’m eating. The sweets in all the restaurants round here are pretty standard. They buy in frozen desserts which are pretty boring and expensive. Real Asian sweets are much more interesting. Barfi is a creamy fudge like sweet. Gulab jaman reminds me of the rum babas which we had as kids, but smaller and in syrup. Kulfi if you can get it is their take on ice-cream and delicious. As you may have gathered I am a fan of their sweets which are a perfect way to help your mouth recover from excess spice. The service here is good. The vegetarian food is superb, and you can take your own alcohol as with any balti house round here.
