Pound Bakery is a Gregg’s type bakery selling pies, pasties and other takeaway food. From the name you might imagine that everything on offer costs a pound. You wouldn’t be too far off because although all the pies and pasties seem to cost 80p each they’re all two for a pound! On my first visit I opted for a couple of chilli beef pasties which were very nice, spicy enough to give a bit of a kick without being overpowering and also with plenty of kidney beans mixed in the filling. Unfortunately on my second visit they didn’t have chilli pasties and the two I ended up with, I can’t remember the filling, were nowhere near as nice with too much pastry and too little filling. I have also tried their carrot cake which was nice and good value for money. All in all it’s ok food at a great price, although if it hadn’t been for the twofer offer I wouldn’t have bought two so they’re maybe guilty of encouraging obesity with their pricing structure.
