Tucked away — a cute place to go for casual pizza and wine in London.

Food: average Service: TERRIBLE! I’m not even giving this restaurant one star for the waiter spilling red wine on my pants and not apologizing. But we had bought a fixed-course dinner here as part of a Time Out package with Billy Elliot and the service was so slow that we were late to the theatre! We had even arrived early for our reservation time, which was pre-selected for us by the restaurant, but by the time our food finally arrived we had to wolf it down and run to the theatre yet were still ten minutes late. Not to mention no time for dessert. As part of a dinner-and-a-show package I find this quite unsatisfactory. (For the record, the manager offered to pay my dry cleaning bill for my pants after I complained.)

Alas dear traveler, here you are. By some unfortunate twist of fate, you’ve found yourself waiting for your coach outside the Victoria Coach Station. You’re tired, you’re hungry, and you’re freshly devastated by the fact that there really aren’t too many great options in the area. Sure, you could huff it over to the Knightsbridge or Kensington area, but let’s be honest; you’d rather not sacrifice your first born’s uni tuition for an overpriced organic sandwich. What do you do? You go to da Scalzo of course; and while it’s not as good as it gets? It’s honestly not a bad option. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? The area around the Victoria Coach Station isn’t really what anyone would consider ‘posh’, possibly due to the unique nature of the clientele who utilize England’s lovely coach network. Having said that, da Scalzo really does try, and they do a pretty darn good job if I don’t say so myself. Service is fast and friendly, and there is abundant seating both indoors and out. No complaints here. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Not quite in the mood for a pizza pie, I opted for the Mushroom Risotto, which ran me £10.25. Have a look: Honestly? Not bad at all considering this was a hefty portion. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Meh. While it was far from the best risotto I’ve ever had, it certainly wasn’t awful. Sure, it was a tad bit undercooked and drenched in way more butter than I would have ever wanted or hoped for, but I finished the whole dish and was content at the end of the evening. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I wouldn’t, but I will say it’s among the better options around the coach station. No Star Granted.

Have been here a few times and cannot recommend it highly enough. The food has always been fantastic and very good value for money. The venue is very classy with wooden décor that makes you think you are in a large pine cabin. On the outside the place looks like a house but you will be quite surprised when you step through the door. Great atmosphere here too with the lighting and music. Only thing that may concern some is that it is slightly out of the way, approximately a ten minute walk from Victoria Station.

This is probably the best place you can eat while waiting for a bus at Victoria Coach Station. I’m a Londoner, but I would recommend this for locals and tourists. Interesting and good pizza selection. I had one with poached egg, olives and spinach — very good! Very few options for vegetarians but at least the ones that they do have are interesting :) The building is very cool — seems to be an old church. Ask to be seated upstairs.

As a comparison to the area and the diversity. This is a great deal. You have many Italian places in the area, but don’t get the good food, great service as you do here. You don’t get a waiter, everyone services you — so ask whoever is walking buy what you need. We went here twice in four days — it’s worthy try.

We ate at here just before Easter. Food was excellent and good value for the money. The tuna steak was beautifully cooked and very tender, and the attentive service was a nice touch.

This four star review is based on two things: a) very friendly staff but moreover b) the best new pizza ever: Prada — chef special made with smoked salmon, marscapone and caviar!(we asked for spinach to replace the rocket as greenery) One of the greatest new pizzas. Try it yourself…

This place is very average, simple as. In my search for good pizza in London this fell well short of the mark. The place is quite nice inside and the staff were friendly, but the food wasn’t anything special. There are hundreds(maybe thousands) of Italian restaurants in London and due to you being spoilt for choice I would not recommend this one.

I would say that the service was great, the food delicious, they have not only Italian menu but also a continental one — so more choice for British traditional cuisine lovers. The wine list is carefully selected and one can enjoy wines from all popular regions in the world: Italy, France, Chile, Australia, South Africa. The restaurant is very clean and offers a second floor terrace with an open view of the bar. I liked the wall posters of famous Italian films like ‘La vita est bello’ and ‘The Godfather’, and the bar decoration of packages with pasta and spaghetti which created somewhat surrealistic atmosphere. I should say: a place where art and culinary definitely meet.

Even with the grand potential of mixing art with Italian food, in a gorgeous setting inside an old church, with the promise of past success of Enzo and Robert Scalzo of Pâtisserie Valerie fame… da Scalzo was just da boring. The most exciting thing inside was the light fixture — which admittedly was pretty exciting. But the pizza was bland at best, service was pointlessly frantic, and the venue was uncomfortably empty on a Saturday night. I blame the music… the Spanish version of Disney’s Aladdin: «A Whole New World» didn’t do much for my mood… although it did give my date plenty of pick up lines for the rest of the evening. Really, thanks. really… It would be so fantastic to have uncovered a little Italian gem in my new neighbourhood, but alas, I’ll have to keep looking. And no Lizzie G, it was not amore.
