I’m glad I’m not going to be the person to break this organisations run of 5⁄5 ratings and with hand on my heart I can give it top marks because I think the work that they do is absolutely brilliant. As other people have said arts in NI has come on leaps and bounds in the last 10 – 15 years and this wee production company has been at the heart of it. I’m not a big fan of theatre but anytime I have been to one of this place’s productions I have always enjoyed it. They always put on excellent, accessible and thought provoking productions. Thumbs Up.

Tinderbox Theatre Company is an organization that is very much at the heart of a thriving arts scene in Belfast. The theatre was formed in 1988 and it is one of Northern Ireland’s longest established and most respected independent theatre companies. Tinderbox is dedicated to new writing for the theatre, the playwrights who create it, and the artistic environment in which its work takes place. They provide two to three productions per year and a range of initiatives to develop new writing for the theatre and also run a year-round Outreach Programme in schools and communities across Northern Ireland. Tinderbox performs in various venues in Belfast, and tours its productions across Ireland and are constantly striving to find new audiences for their music. Definitely a local arts organization worth supporting.

The arts in Northern Ireland are thriving, which is a good thing, but it doesn’t mean that everything that’s produced is quality, which is a bad thing. Luckily, we have companies like Tinderbox flying the flag for bloody good theatre in NI. I remember doing my work experience there and absolutely loving it. It’s a very small company, but the work they produce is generally fantastic. For instance, they once produced a play about the Troubles(they do quite a lot of that), that was staged in Crumlin Road Jail. The play was staged in different rooms around the jail and the audience were expected to move and follow the action from one end of the building to the other — brilliant! They have a production coming up in this year’s Belfast Festival, so if I were you, I’d get my tickets now.
