Despite the multitude of chique little foodie offerings throughout the market, a huge number of people still seem to find solace in this ‘greasy spoon’ café shoved into the corner of St George’s Market. I think I had a burger here when I was out with the paper covering an event in the market one Sunday but I can’t remember exactly how palatable it was. I did however try a bacon bap when I was there about six weeks ago. This fell on the same day here alcohol related dehydration had riddled my body and after liquid, the next requirement was something to soak up the single malt from the night before(I thought I’d treat myself). I’m still not sure what the ratio of pork meat to pork fat was on the rashers inside but it must have been 40 –60 in the fats favour. Crispy pork fat of any kind is usually fantastic but not when it’s squidgy, rubbery and for all intensive purposes, raw. It was slightly charred at one side and almost gammon like at the other. The bap had also decided on soaking up any fat that had emanated from the meat and had now made its way through to the other side of each slice. It was cheap, it wasn’t quite so cheerful. Its fair to say not the best experience I’ve had food wise, you might have better luck with something else but if you can’t get a bacon buttie right there’s going to be trouble.
