A sister café to the store on Botanic, which I’m a big fan of. This ‘Other Place Express’ branch is more aimed at people popping in to grab something on their lunch. They offer much the same as the menu on the Botanic street chunky club sandwiches, BLT’s and the classic burger and chips. This one is a little less relaxing and homely than the Botanic branch. Nothing bad to say about it really, but nothing amazing either.

The Other Place based on Botanic has been a long time favourite for the many students and folks on a budget who are also able to bring their own booze(a bit of a dying beast around these parts) I only discovered this little speedy café a week or so ago, not usually wandering around Queen Street on my daily commute. It’s a bit of a let down to some extent. I ordered a burger when I was there with a friend and although the service was quick the burger was dry, a bit thin and in general just a bit of a depressing let down. Prices are as you can imagine — cheap, but still, there is an awful lot of competition around the city and for a speedy greasy spoon to keep its head a float it has to do an awful lot more than this.

I’m such a huge fan of The Other Place on Botanic avenue and was thrilled to find they had a city centre venture too! I was curious as to the addition of the word express but figured it just meant they got the food out in good time. No, they would like you out in good time! You do feel a bit rushed in here, not rudely so in any way though, the staff are great. I guess with such a high turnover at lunchtime they need to get the tables cleared and filled quickly through it. The food was just as good as the Botanic restaurant and I went for the Ulster fry-for comparison– and really couldn’t fault it! Prices are good, perhaps a little more being in the city centre but that’s to be expected surely! Great place!

I nipped in here for lunch the other day and was won over by the fact that I’m a bit of a fan of the sister(brother?) restaurant up on Botanic. First impressions were good as the room looked well dressed and it seemed like someone had made a bit of an effort with kitting the place out. As we were in a hurry I wasn’t too aware of any rushing by the staff as mentioned by other reviewers but thinking back the food was on the table damn quick and we didn’t spend too much time loitering. Having said that, the food was good and there was a pleasant busy buzz in the place. I could see this being a very popular lunch options for those wanting something quick, easy and not too challenging. Pros: Nice interior, good food. Cons: Food seemed a bit expensive.

When I saw the Other Place Express, I wondered if it was owned by the same people who own the Other Place on the Botanic Avenue. After being seated and noticing how ‘brisk’(putting it nicely) the staff are with their customers, I can only assume it must be. This city centre version of the Other Place must think putting Express in their name means they can rush you in and out as fast as they like. No sooner as you put your knife and fork down, that your plates are away and the bill is on your table. For all my complaining, just like the one on Botanic, this place is always busy and come lunch time the chances of getting a table are very slim. The food is quite nice and you can’t complain about the prices, I just wonder why people feel ok about the service they provide.

The Other Place Express, situated just off Donegall Place, is an unassuming little café that serves decent food at a pretty decent standard. They do all the usual stuff like Panini’s, soup and sandwiches and even a bit of stew in the winter. It is a good place to go if you have kids as it caters for them well. I would suggest however to try and go any time before or after the lunch rush during the weeks, and before or after 12−2pm on a Saturday as you will simply not get a table it gets so busy. The staff are a little bit sharp at times and upon occasion you may feel yourself being a little rushed, however on the hole they are ok. If you ever do manage to get here, I would advise getting yourself some of their chocolate cake, which is very good.
