As others have said before me this does seem to appeal for the younger generation of shoppers in Victoria Square. When the youth aren’t sleeping in until four, idling about the city centre or generally getting up to no good this seems to be something of a magnet(infact while I was here a large group of Saturday kids that hang around the nearby Cornmarket wandered in past me and began prodding things) A large range of t-shirts, jeans and hoodies as well as a smaller selection of footwear on the way into the store. Most of the items on offer a little bit too white, slapped to death with randomly numbers and slogans and a touch pricey for what they are as well. Perhaps somewhere to send a younger brother or sister but if you’ve already left school I’d give it a miss.

Pull and Bear is pretty cool. The clothes target a slightly younger generation and are all funky and very ‘in’. It’s a great wee shop to get some holiday gear out of as the clothes just seem to ooze holiday in the sun! Their ranges of T-Shirts and hoodies are really great and they have some pretty cool accessories too! Upstairs is men’s and I hear good things from my brother about the stuff. A nice refreshing change from all the usuals!

Normally I don’t really have much inclination to go clothes shopping in Victoria Square, most of the gear is either too expensive, too ‘yoof’ or to my eyes looks too ridiculous. On a potter I was intrigued by the name and what appeared to be an interesting looking hoodie on one of the shop window mannequins. Inside the shop looked pretty cool and I quickly located the menswear upstairs. As it was still quite early in the morning the whole floor was empty(of staff as well) so I had perhaps the ideal browsing experience. Most of the fashion seemed quite understated(by Vic Sq standards) and there were a load of interesting looking jackets and coats which I actually for once could feel myself getting interested in. The accessories were good as well, reasonably sensible hats, scarves, gloves, socks and the like plus a small but quite cool selection of footwear. The pricing wasn’t too bad either… basic coloured tees started at £5.99 and ranged up to £50 for more ornate designs and the jeans started at a mere £15.99. Not too bad especially as the cuts and style def were way ahead of the likes of other cheap high street stores(Primark, I’m looking at you…). Pros: Reasonable styles for the money. Cons: Perhaps on the young side.

This place is alright but a bit too tweeny for me. Personally I’m into clothes that are a bit more sophisticated than this. My younger sister, who is 19 is really into all the cutesy girly stuff they have on offer. They really do offer good value for money though. Some of the clothes have kind of a Spanishy feel and some of the more casual stuff would probably be ideal to wear on holiday or while travelling. I bought one of their bikinis last year which I loved. It was a red one with white polka dots but I left it in Italy when I was traveling round there last summer. It was only £12 and I really loved it, but alas it is gone! This place is also good for casual guys clothes. I bought a pair of casual checked shorts for a boyfriend here and they were really nice and great value too. Not the most fashionable of places, but alright.

Deep in the designer habitat that is Victoria Square lies Pull and Bear, this shop unlike its name sake does not hibernate it is loud and brash and open all year round. This brings me to an experience I had with Pull and Bear at Christmas. I was given the opportunity by my older and generous brother of choosing my own Christmas present, while wondering around Victoria Square the options were endless, I could have had an Ipod from Apple, some boxers from Calvin Klein or I could even have built my own bear. But I chose to get my present from Pull and Bear and I picked a pair of Blue Cords. I know they sound bad but they looked and felt great. As everyone knows the first night out after Christmas is the night to show off all your new gear, people in the clubs still have the labels on their clothes and new mobile phones still have their plastic protective slip so with this in mind I decided to wear my new Pull and Bear Cords, at £50 I expected quality and at least a little bit of attention. But I got neither, the attention I can not blame on the cords but the quality was awful. I woke up the next morning to find they were ripped in 3 places and I know I like to bust a move now and then but I was not doing the splits or an impression of Michael Flatley, so couldn’t explain it. Needless to say I took them back to Pull and Bear and they would only grant me an exchange, this was okay but I was a little concerned about the quality from then on, if you pay over £50 for anything you expect to use it more than once before it breaks.

This is what this place desribes itself as — «The spirit of youth is our source of inspiration. Since its creation in 1991, Pull and Bear has known how to adapt to the needs of young people, and is now a clear point of reference for casual, laid-back clothing.» I’m not a plan of this place, or even any place that is like this in anyway whatsoever. Its a bit too trendy for its own good and I’m really not a fan of any of the brands they have on offer. I prefer a bit of the old vintage stores and the Levi’s store. Anytime I have called in the staff have been lovely and polite, I just don’t like anything that they sell and will probably never be back here, ever, ever, ever.
