Planetlove caters to a specific musical genre that isn’t exactly my favourite, so it would be very easy to criticise, but I am going to give an objective view informed from my views and also those of my sister’s boyfriend who has been a regular attendee the last few years The festival has been growing well from year to year, and now has a wide range of tents over 3 days, with big name headliners like Fatboy Slim and Calvin Harris this year. The festival caters to the hard style genre of dance and has the cream of local and international DJs. It is fair to say that the festival attracts a certain type of crowd who are there mainly to consume illegal materials, get blocked and cause trouble, but security are getting better and are restricting the illegal activity more and more so people can focus on the music. Communal dance can be a very powerful and uniting music, even if it isn’t your usual cup of tea, so I recommend that people try it before they knock it!

Planetlove brings in some good names, but unfortunately it’s just a bit too rough around the edges for my liking. If you are really into your music, then you could probably look past it, and while I am into my music, I’m not really into THAT music, so I couldn’t help but notice the frightfully fresh faced(ahem) clientele…(d’ya get where I’m going with this) Dressed in Primark’s finest dayglo with a tan to match, clutching a bottle of WKD blue and chewing their eye brows, it made me feel slightly nervous. But of course, they were ‘lovin’ it!‘ There’s not a terrible lot more I can say, due to the copied and pasted information already left in this thread, but it’s one of those things, you will love it or hate it. Personally, if you are like me and have any reservations at all, your first thought is probably right. Have fun!

Dumph dumph dumph… You want a drink? I SAIDDOYOUWANT A DRINK? NONOTBANKMACHINE! A DRINK! Planet Love is(depending on your music tastes) a fantastic/horrible(delete as appropriate) music festival which specialises primarily in dance/trance beats… or something… For fans of dance music, this is in effect your one stop festival. They have one of the best line-ups you will find this side of Ibiza, including Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell and Mauro Picotto(who I remember quite well from the 90s but was surprised to find out he still was mixing some choons!) What was most noticeable from the line up this year was the influence of the ‘pop’ charts and how these commercially successful artists have been integrated into what would normally be dance only. For instance, Fatboy Slim found himself in a headlining slot, supported by Calvin Harris, while on the Cool FM stage, Example(who I seen at a Lily Allen gig) were supporting Rev Run from the legendary Run DMC. The festival has been moved to the better located Kings Hall complex, away from Shane’s Castle, meaning it is closer to the city and even closer to my house. Happy days! Though you will get(as you always do) a bunch of WKD children drugged up and acting the maggot, this is certainly one of the better festivals that Belfast puts on and if this years line up is anything to go by, it will be getting bigger and more diverse as the years go on.
