I’m not going to lie to you. I had a religious fried fish experience while eating my fish from Michael’s. I’ve been to lots of Wisconsin fish frys. I’ve been around the fish and chip scene in London. Portions of kibbling in the Netherlands. So many fish po-boys from New Orleans I could identify by sight. Even know my way around frozen fish sticks… But this one… my god I’m fantasying right now. I had to step away for a second. Michael’s was **the best fried fish I’ve ever eaten in my life.** Hands down. I’d consider flying to Belfast for lunch one day. Let’s hope it wasn’t a fluke. It’s off the beaten path, but come on, would you risk missing this? The whitefish was perfect for frying — flaky and gentle but omnipresent flavor. The breading was immaculately crispy and had a halo of purity and simpleness to it. Served piping hot in a cardboard box and not even oily. Best served with the smallest amount possible of malt vinegar and perhaps a tough of lemon, but not required.

nothing but good things to say about this off the beaten path chip shop. quality ingredients and friendly service go a long way, in my book, and both were on offer here. your standard fried fare was slightly elevated by the use of quality ingredients and my order was thankfully not swimming in a sea of grease. had a nice conversation with the owners, as i waited for my food, and even got a free order of onion rings. two thumbs up for my friendly neighborhood dealer of all things deep fried!
