A lot of money has been spent on improving Mary Peters Track and the surrounding area over the last 12 months. It is hosting the world fire and police games in August 2013 so it is certainly looking at its best. I however do not use the running track itself but love running and mountain biking through the forest next to the running track. There are purpose built mountain biking tracks for people of different levels of fitness and skill and they attack many people from across N.Ireland. Wear a helmet, pack a water bottle and enjoy

The Mary Peter’s track is where I was forced to run like an ejit at the age of 9⁄10 desperately trying to beat the other kids in my class on a sports day and I’m rubbish at running, so I hated this place. These days however, a more mature, still rubbish runner me can appreciate how this course is an asset to Belfast. Just like when I was a kid, this place is still used for school sports days, but as well it is used for training by the various running clubs around Belfast. There are also junior school championships held here, given that its named after Belfast’s best runner in history, this would be a great experience for anyone taking part.

Mary Peter’s Track is one of the largest track and field spaces in Northern Ireland. Sport isn’t really my thing, so like Lyra M, it reminds me very much of schools sports days! It is open to the public, so a lot of people take their dogs there to give them a good run around, or to give themselves a good run around too! Like I said, sports aren’t my thing, so I’m more likely to be sitting on the sidelines watching everyone wear themselves out!

I associate Mary Peter’s track(named after the native Olympic runner from B’fast) with absolute pain and torture as our school’s sports day was hosted here every year. Nonetheless, it’s a lovely wee spot, with an 800m track surrounded by rolling hills(the rolling hills were great because you could hide in them when your name was called out for the 100m race). It’s a nice spot to walk the dog or go for a cycle; other than that, it’s mainly used for sporting events, with the Centre of Sport’s close proximity making it handy.
