It’s time I updated my review of Jellybean. 6 years have passed since my last review and since then it’s become a bit of a regular spot for me on account of me working nearby. Since my original review I have visited numerous times and not experienced the same service issues since. Service has been quick and efficient and the food, delicious! I’m a creature of habit and always have the same thing — number 9 wrap with soup(Smoked chicken, rocket and brie) So tasty!

Only got round to visiting last week, meeting a girl friend for coffee! Friendly staff, reasonably priced, tasty tray bakes and great location! So handy with car park and next door to marks and Spencer’s! We will be back.

Good for soup and a sarnie at lunch. Reasonably priced good food. Always seems to be rammed full of babies for some reason! Staff friendly

Gotta love this place. It’s about the best café I can think of if you have to take the kids somewhere. My 2yr old loves the place. There is plenty of space for the kids to run about with a sofa set-up on one side that gives space for little ones to climb and sit in comfort beside mums and dads. The menu is good too, food that will please both the babies, toddlers, bigger kids and mum&dad too. The back has a play area too with a TV and lots of toys so if need be the kids can have a play after dropping their food everywhere but the plate. a warm friendly place with a decent selection of decent food, served in a place that should occupy the kids for that 10 mins of precious time in which to enjoy your coffee!

Jellybean should rename itself Yummy Mummy Castle, as that is what it is. Usually hiving just after the drop off or pick up from school, it is filled with child minders who cappuccino and ladies who lunch. Bright and clean with a special area to keep the kids occupied(allegedly) it is very family orientated. Because of this the noise levels can get a little high sometimes, but don’t let that put you off. Their lunch selection of soups and sandwiches are delicious, and much better than grabbing something from a packet from the M&S next door. Their tray bakes are totally yum and the staff are patient and lovely– way more than I would be surrounded by kiddies with sticky fingers. If you can cope with all the babies and buggies, this is a great spot on the Newtownards Road for lunch. Or take away and eat it in your car in the free car park. ;-)

Last year when I was getting a quick service in the Kwik Fit around the corner, I decided to head to this funky little café just up the street because I was feeling too lazy to keep on walking down the street to other more grown up areas! The décor of the place is bright and funky, and is quite different from your traditional café! As you can tell from the name, this place is very much child orientated, with a separate play area for the kids to entertain themselves, but the menu is suitable for adults too who want a quick delicious treat to get them through the day! The café does the usual blend of coffees, teas, soft drinks and milk shake, and has a wide range of special fruit juice blends, which pleased me greatly as one of the few coffee haters around! The food menu is also good with a range of wraps, sandwiches, Paninis and«squishies» which can be filled with the filling of your choice! I had a roast beef sandwich and the meat was really juicy and succulent, not the usual dried out rubbish you get from most places. This place is great for a quick lunch for anyone, but would definitely be best for any parent who wants to refuel and get a little peace from their kids!

Colourful and cool, Jellybean Café is great for chillin’ and having a catch up with a friend of two. Which is precisely what I did. A few minutes early for my ‘coffee’ with a friend(let’s face it, it’s never a coffee when I’m concerned), I dandered into Jellybean, noting the brightly coloured chairs and barrier situated on the outside of the café. Walking in, I noticed the long rectangular mirror hanging on the right hand wall, with coloured stripes along the outside of the glass, and the brightly coloured menu on the back wall. A waitress approached me(wearing bright yellow eyeshadow) and asked me if I would like a drink while I was waiting. In-keeping with all these intense hues, I ordered a cranberry juice, which came in a bright pink cup. You’ll be glad to hear that the furniture inside the café is black. The menu is incredibly varied, offering everything from fresh juices for every occasion(detox, hangover, fighter and energiser), to innovatively named ‘squashies’ — a toasted and squashed ciabatta bread sandwich. Upon her arrival, my friend ordered the hangover number 2 drink(she was perfectly sober), and enjoyed the fruity combo of orange and a-good-few-other-things. My cranberry juice went down a storm too. 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon seems the perfect time to visit Jellybean. It wasn’t super quiet, but it was far from busy, with just a few kids. They were happily entertained by the small tubs of jellybeans, cute drinks and could even watch a film on the TV screen located in the back corner of the café. Sweet. If you need a dash of colour in your life, Jellybean will definitely provide it. And a good drink too.

Jellybean caused quite a stir when it opened a few years ago — not only was it child friendly but it had furniture etc from IKEA! Wow, but like I say that was a few years ago before we had an IKEA in Belfast. The shame of it. Anyway, Jellybean quickly established itself as and still is somewhere you can take your kids and not worry too much about how much noise they are making as there is a seperate play area from the tables and chairs. It looks like a corral to me but I’m not complaining about that. In theory, children can meet other children and play together but in reality they tend to glare at each other and grab toys but still it keeps them amused. Meanwhile, you can have a bite to eat — scones etc in the morning and nice sandwiches and salads etc at lunchtime. Kids meals come in a little paper bag which is cute and there isn’t a chicken nugget to be seen which has got to be good — sandwiches and wraps junior size instead. However, no café is perfect and my niggle is that the staff take the kids word for it when they go from the play area to the counter and ask for the trademark bowl of jellybeans which they then sneak back to the play area with. Gotta admire the kids style though. Easy parking right outside and M&S next door so all good, but don’t even consider it if you don’t have young kids.

This is a great place to go. well located. Very tasty snacks and coffee. The selling point for this place, for me is that it is so so child friendly.

Great café with childrens play area in Ballyhackamore. Serves great coffees and tray bakes and their very own squashies. Prices can be high — I once asked for 6 tiny gingerbread men to take back to the office with me and was charged £9! But other than that a relaxing place for mums to go with kids and not worry!
