A gallery and framers which shows a diverse range of contemporary artworks. Paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings — they have it all. Canvas staff are friendly and allow you to have a browse at your own leisure. The one and only drawback is that it is such a small space.

Very poor. I was interested in framing ten 16″ x 25″ art posters so phoned the shop, the sales person who answered said he wasn’t interested as they have lots on and they weren’t worth his time especially with the late notice. Fair enough, though no need for the arrogance. So I went down the road to Town House Framing on Great Victoria Street and they will have 5 of the posters ready by Saturday, at a good price too.

I am basing my review on a launch of an exhibition I attended here in November of last year. It was a great little show where 50 artists submitted 2 small canvasses each to the show. The canvasses filled the walls and it was fun trying to guess the pairs artists had submitted. My friend had two fantastic paintings in this show, but some of the stuff submitted was real amateur crap. Like stuff drawn with markers with tinfoil stuck on it. I mean come on! For someone like my friend, who has a degree in Fine Art, works in an artist studio and is trained to a high level to be exhibiting her work beside some messers using markers was a bit questionable for me. I would agree with the other reviewer in saying the standard of art Canvas show is average.

This gallery was unfortunately rather uninspiring. Yes, there were some nice pictures, it was well laid out and set in a nice, airy space. But all I can really say about it is that it was average, one that could be missed. It was nice that we were left to our own devices to browse through the pieces but at the same time this gave the impression that the owner couldn’t really care less about us and was more concerned about having a chat with his mate who just called in rather than serving two paying customers. There is a framing service offered, and I must say there were some nice moulds on offer. Work shown featured sculptures by Patrick Colhoun which did catch my eye but that’s about all I can say enthused me. I just took a look on the website which really didn’t do itself any favours. Totally lacklustre

I strolled in here with a friend after having a pizza down the street to be pleasantly surprised. Being someone who studied Art History at degree level, I have quite a specific taste and personal likes and dislikes when it comes to art, especially commercial art that is for sale in local galleries, but I really liked what they were offering here although I couldn’t’ afford it! The gallery was showing work by Hugh Clawson and Seanna McCann, and the Hugh Clawson ceramic pictures were really pretty, with little Irish scenes painted on the ceramic tile, with bright, eye-catching colours which were still natural and pleasant. The staff didn’t really acknowledge me — maybe they assumed(rightly) that I was just browsing, or maybe they wrote me off as a non-starter — could they tell I was skint? Maybe. It’s a pleasant gallery but needs a bit more invitation and warmth from the staff.

Good framing shop which also sells prints. Service is friendly and efficient and range of options is good. Advice is always given and the sales guy I dealt with made excellent recommendations which I would not have thought of myself. Recommend.
