For those who are lovers of Jane Austen and happen to be in Bath, I recommend The Regency Tea Room at the Jane Austen Centre. We dined there two summers ago during a visit to Bath. This tea room has the best Earl Grey tea I’ve ever tasted! We loved it so much, we tried to purchase the tea, but they were out of stock, unfortunately. The menu has names like Tea with Mr. Darcy and the servers are dressed in period costume. There is even a portrait of Mr. Darcy(Colin Firth) hanging over the fireplace. The items sold at the gift shop are amusing – I didn’t know that so many«I Love Darcy» items existed.

After our Jane Austen tour my girlfriend and I were definitely going to book tea for this place. After a longer tour, provided by our tour guide if we wanted to stay longer which I loved, but I was famished. I can’t recall what tea I got, an orange spice blend or something, but my friend did get something else the Jane Austen blend, and we tried each. The scones were delicious with their jam, I did not like the clotted cream. Sorry! The service was ok, I mean the only lady that was legit in the mindset of the 19th century was the big lady and the teenagers did sort of ruin it for me. I did ask what tea they suggested because they work there and should know and they’re British so they know a lot more about tea than I do, but she said she did not like tea! I can’t dislike her entirely because she did suggest the orange tea for me. They did have some cakes that I was facing and basically staring at the whole time, they looked old fashioned and fresh and obviously home made. But alas we were too full. It does get very crowded so if you are touring for fun not really a local I mean, do go early eight when they open and book your tour and your tea reservation. Then you can look around their shop downstairs.

I felt a little bad here because we weren’t dressed for tea. We had been touring all over the UK for days and didn’t have the energy to switch into tea appropriate clothing. We had a good time here. i had the Jane Austen blend and it was lovely. The scones they had were great too and the clotted cream was good. I really liked the setting upstairs in a typical Bath townhouse. This is a must do in Bath

cute, tiny place for tea and crumpets. we stopped here after the jane austen walking tour, b/c they drop you off at the centre. skip the centre exhibits and go straight upstairs for tea. i love the servers’ outfits. where can i get one?

Regency Tea Rooms, located at the top of the Jane Austen Centre, had all kinds of different teas with cute names like the Mr Darcy Tea w/finger sandwiches, cake, and scones w/the proper clotted cream and jam. We opted for the Ladies Afternoon Tea and the Proper Cream Tea. Scones were tasty and crumbly. Earl Grey was a heavier tea w/strong floral overtones. Jane Austen blend was light & very smooth, almost like an English Breakfast. Bought some Jane Austen Blend to take home & remind us of our morning w/Jane.
