Thai by the Weir

Spicy and delicious food, friendly staff.
Had a very good Phở soup in here.
Would go there again.

First of all… the view (if you get a table in the back) is beautiful. While I love Thai food, I will say I was drawn in by the placement on the Pultney Bridge. When I walked in, it wasn’t very busy for a Friday night, but there were quite a few of us ‘single’ diners. The waiter was very quick to greet me and show me to a seat.
I started looking over the menu when I realized that there was more on the menu than Thai food. There was Indian, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Chinese… oh and Thai. Funny enough, and I didn’t realize it until after I placed my order, I had a Vietnamese starter and main. Oops, but that’s what stuck out to me. I did order the Thai Lemon Iced Tea… really nice! So I ordered the Vietnamese Rolls: duck rolled in a rice paper with thai basil, mint, coriander, and noodles with a very spicy, but sweet sauce. While I wished there was a bit more duck and a bit more coriander in the roll, overall I did enjoy it. For my main I ordered the Beef Phở. In all my culinary experiences, I have never had Phở before and maybe I should’ve saved it for an actual Vietnamese restaurant. The bowl of food was very large, but I will say it was a bright pink, plastic bowl… The food smelled good and looked nice, but something was off about the broth… mostly that it kind of looked like the beef broth cube had not fully dissolved in water.
While it was nice for what it was, I thought it could have used more seasoning as I didn’t get the chilies, mint, or coriander that was mentioned on the menu. The beef in the soup was tender, but there was not an awful lot of it. In fact, I didn’t think there was enough substance in the broth. The waiter was very attentive and very friendly. Overall, it was a filling meal and it did not break the bank at £13. In fact for the prices, I did feel like there was a lot of food, it could just use more seasoning. I don’t know that I’ll be back though…
