I’ve been going to this pub for a number of years, the banter is always good although and there is some variation of sport on the one of the many televisions in the building. The staff are friendly and always up for a laugh.

Previously I would have thought the ‘Rose’(as all the Bangor folk call it) was a bit of a dive but on Saturday night I had the pleasure of attending an awards ceremony in the upstairs lounge. I had no idea this lounge even existed until Saturday or that you could hire it out for private functions. The space itself is good with ample seating although over 30 people and it could become a little cramped. Unfortunately it does not have a bar so you have to go downstairs to get your pints and spirits. There’s a dartboard and for any Phil Taylor ‘want to be’s’. This review is for the upstairs bar but from passing through the downstairs bar a few times it looked pretty lively with punters singing along with the brave soul doing karaōke. I think the ‘Rose’ is a solid 3 stars — if the function room was renovated slightly I think they could book it out every week. It is a great central location and has good views over the Marina.

I haven’t been in here too much and can’t really comment about the ongoing atmosphere and goings on. However I did pop in for a quick pint with a friend one day and found the place OK. We got two pints and took a seat and I found the atmosphere OK, A few guys in watching sports, some old timers probably propping up the bar in their usual seats and some rogues like ourselves! It done exactly the job we needed it to in offering us good been in comfortable surroundings!

One of Bangor’s longest established bars but unfortunately one of its least welcoming for the normal punter, unless you are heading in for a pint with the football during the week. For football during the week this place is nice because there are plenty of big screens and there is always a good atmosphere. The pints are nice enough at a pretty standard price but the staff can be a bit surly at times and not all that friendly. At the weekend this place just seems very unwelcoming, I’ve been in once or twice and never felt all that comfortable. Its an older crowd but it always seems like it is just about to kick off. There is a disco upstairs at the weekend but I have never dared venture that far into this unwelcoming pub at the bottom of High Street in Bangor.
