About time I updated my review of Bangor Ominplex, since my last review this cinema has undergone a mini makeover that makes it well worthy of a wee star upgrade and here’s why; Firstly the look and feel of the pace has changed, it no longer has that warehouse look, they’ve glammed it up by putting up large yellow ‘OMNIPLEX’ letters and they’ve installed a wee ticket booth on the inside — almost like a throwback to vintage cinemas. Although when I visited it wasn’t open. On my most recent visit we took my nieces to see Alvin and the chipmunks — surprised it wasn’t on the Oscars shortlist to be honest — anyway, their exuberance and excitement for Bangor cinema took me back to my youth(sounding old here) when a cinema visit was a day out. Bangor Omniplex is very child friendly with booster seat available, kids meal deals, ticket deals and easy to locate toilets. Although beware of the pick’a’mix, they charge by the cup! Most adults know that in this case you jam as many sweets in as possible to ensure you’re getting value for money but my niece thought the £4 cup was a great holder for 215p drumsticks! Something to look out for! The staff are great, they even informed me of the kids combo deal to save me from getting completely rinsed. The cinema itself is great — the screens are large meaning it’s not too often that they’ll be full. I was actually surprised about how quiet it was on a Saturday afternoon! The parking situation is odd — it says it’s pay and display but I’m not sure if it’s enforced — I didn’t buy a ticket and I was fine but don’t take my word for it — it didn’t used to be a paid car park. Overall it’s a good cinema, not amazing but was enough to impress a six and eight year old!

This is a great cinema with friendly staff. We go there most weeks on a Tuesday when tickets are £3.50 each. I agree that drinks/snacks are expensive but isn’t that the case at most cinemas? Also, I wouldn’t call a 5 — 10 minute walk from the town excessive. My only concern is the likely introduction of charges at the adjoining car park; although £1 for 3 hours isn’t too bad.

This cineplex has been a bangor monument for some time. In fact it has been in the same place and only had 1 or 2 revamps in the 20 years that my memory serves. Given this, it is not the most aesthetically pleasing or modern cinema. However, it does what it is supposed to… The seats are comfy, the screens are big and the audio quality is what you would expect. For this reason I would give it 4 stars… But sadly I had a pretty awkward date here a few weeks back(mostly through my own awkwardness) and thus decided to deduct a star.

Bangor Omniplex is a bit rubbish to be frank and to the point. If it weren’t for the fact that Bangor is about 15 minutes away from any other area that would have a superior cinema, meaning locals go here for the convenience, this place would have went to the ground a long time ago. The position of the cinema is the first stumbling block, as it is located a good 5 – 10 minute walk from the town centre which means that you aren’t able to go to local restaurants beforehand unless you go really early because you will have a substantial walk on your hands. The cinema has been done up a little bit on the inside and outside in recent times, and yet it still feels old and run down which isn’t a good thing. The selection of movies here is poor, with only 6 screens which show films irregularly, so most of the time nothing suits. The snack selection is poor and the prices are high, which is a bad combination! There is good parking out the front of the complex, but unless every cinema in a 20 mile radius of me has been booked out, Bangor cinema is pretty much the last cinema I would ever want to go to!

This is Bangor’s only cinema and that is probably the only reason that it is ever frequented by pretty much anyone. Having a monopoly on the service really helps and in fact most people I know would rather go to Newtownards or even all the way to Belfast rather than go to see a movie here. Its antiquated and over priced with only a very, very basic selection of films on offer. Some good points are that you can pick up tickets at the automated ticket machine if you book in advance and there is good parking but other than that it is pretty dire. Its £6 for a movie, which you don’t mind if the cinema experience is top notch but that couldn’t be further from the truth at this place.
